I went for 2 rounds over the last 2night's,I even played 25 hole's last nite and my short game has totally abandoned me. I couldn't hit any green with my second shot and even trying to get up and down with my 3rd shot with my lob wedge I still couldn't get close. I normally have a pretty steady short game, hitting most greens with my second shot's but over the last few rounds I'm spraying there right or else topping them. It is starting to play on my mind now and trying to correct it is making it worse. Does this happen often to guy's on here and what do ye do to sort it out?

Move the ball slightly back in your stance so you're hitting down on the ball to avoid the topping, works for me!

Do you take divots with your short/approach shots? [/quote

Ya I usually take an average enough sized divot but over the last few rounds I've been taking huge divot's,something like you would dig out of the garden with a spade. It's really starting to get in my head now. Kind of hard to get a score going when I dint have chances to putt for birdie.

I've tried this but all I get is a duffed shot with a bigger divot. I think it might be time to go to course and just practice my short game to try and iron it out

Get a lesson as soon as possible and nip it in the bud before it becomes a habit. I had my first short game lesson about two months ago and wish I had had it years ago as my short game has improved tremendously and I thought it was reasonable in the first place !

With all respect, perhaps a lob wedge for the 3rd shot isn't the best option off your handicap (and mine) try running a few in with less lofted clubs, a percentage shot.
you may want to be a purist but there are no pictures on the score card ;)
