So, I had my putter fitting this afternoon at Moor Allerton GC and the results were slightly unexpected.
I won't bore you with too many technical details or measurements, mostly because there weren't any! The pro had me set up and hit a few putts with a range of putters he picked out and those that caught my eye. Under scrutiny my putting was streaky at best, but after 20 or so putts, he made some observations on my technique.
1. I move too much during the putting stroke, particularly on my left side.
2. My back stroke is too long and needs shortening.
3. I stand quite close too the ball so he suggested a centre shaft putter.
After consciously working on 1&2, we looked at a range of centre shafted putters and tried them out. The results were encouraging and we narrowed it down to two models; the Nike Method Core 4i and a TaylorMade White Smoke iN74.
After further testing, it was clear to me that the TaylorMade was the one to go for. Before I walked in I would never have picked this one out, but hopefully the proof will be in the pudding and I'll be holing some more putts!
The putter is going to be cut down to 32" and the grip converted to a midsize one, then it will be ready to pick up tomorrow night, in time for Saturday's Medal. Looking forward to taking it out and hopefully with added confidence, knowing that expert advice and actual testing went into the choice of my new putter!
It may look unappealing to some, and by my own admission it isn't the most striking putter I've ever seen, but here she is!
