Money List Winner
Hi Guys and Girls.
Having won my first ever prize through the forum,i would like to share my experience.
This is a great forum, and the oppurtunitys are endless.
So first i would like to thank Mike and his team for selecting me.
The reason for applying for the fitting, was purely down to the missing of short putts, especially
inside 3ft.
I feel i am quite competent at longer putts.
After first meeting Wayne[Tab73] the two GM guys arrived.
Paul the video meastro and Tom the photographer who i have met a couple of times before.
Even though im not really a nervous person, they really do put you at ease.
Our Pro for the day,and fitter was Andy a plus 1 handicapper.
I even chose the putter he had purchased the day before.
Before the fitting Tab and i looked at the putters, and we both wanted the most expensive,
a scotty.
Having read a Thread recently about being a certain eye dominant,i had done the test and i
was right eye dominant.
So i was looking at a putter that had no offset at all.
So after giving the pro some information about my putting, and telling him my problems.
And after him watching me putt,he noticed that my stroke had a arc and i was coming
in from the inside.
Hence i was pushing most putts to the right of the hole when i missed.
The first putter he gave me was a TM 34" Classic Smoke 79 maranel. It has a mallet type rounded head.
I promise you this,it felt so comfortable straight away, the grip felt perfect.
The head felt really flat to the floor,so i was not putting off the heel or toe.
It was really easy to align using the alignment aid,and i could not miss, even putting 6 8ft putts
in a row.
The short putts from 3ft,after leaving 2 short as we were putting up a hill, yet again i was never missing.
I was no longer pushing the putts, and Andy the pro said it was because the mallet type head
promoted a better follow through.
I then tried the really expensive Scottys.
The Scotty California Del Mar was a no virtually straight away,to me it had no feel, and it gave me no confidence.
Next the Scotty select Newport 2.6 was a straight shaft[no offset].
It was a lot heavier than the TM and it was wavering a little on the takeaway, but the results were good.
After putting for a good 20 minutes i went for the TM.
It gave me so much confidence every time i picked it up.
The moral of the story is sometimes cheaper is better.
I would probably never picked the TM purely because it wasnt expensive enough,as in my
mind,to improve you have to buy the dearest equipment, certainly not true in this case.
I would suggest a fitting to anyone who struggles with there putting, purely to get the most
comfortable and confidence boosting putter.
On a final note i was quite surprised the length was 34" as im 6ft 1 and i automatically
presumed i would require a 35" putter.
Thanks for reading, and once a gain thanks to GM.
