When I first started playing golf around summer 07 I was advised to become a member at one of the so called big 2 in our area . I joined the course where a work colleague played and at that time was happy enough. However after leaving after one season and joining my current parkland course (the other big one) , am glad I did. After playing it again today and numerous times since I left I just do not enjoy the course. I feel if I had stayed there another year I would've proberbly chucked it. Anyone had similar experience ?

Ps I played and beat my work colleague there today.

Yes I started my golf at Buxton & High Peak & moved to Cavendish about 7 years ago now & have never looked back. It's not that High Peak is a bad course I just don't enjoy it anymore, I played it a couple of years ago and it didn;t give me the same feeling as playing Cavendish does.

Almost. I was toying between joining my current club and a bit closer to home. Made the right decision though as I've played the other course a few times since and I just find it boring bar one or two holes.

I changed back to my old club this year, condition not as nice but enjoyment and fellow golfers make it the better place.

My game has improved too as i am enjoying it more

I switched back to my old club this year and while its not as good a course, the membership is fantastic. Every medal has been a rip roaring laugh thus far and I'm getting at least 2 games a week. My golf as a result is coming on fast

Was a junior member at buxton and high peak and used to play the cavendish in various junior opens and comps, always a lovely course to play and considering only a few miles in between you never seemed to feel the wind as much at the cavendish
When we (almost) came of age we used to spend a lot of time at the 19th hole pub next to B&HP even once rolled out of there at 7am and straight onto the course - happy days
I think me and a couple of mates are looking to play the opens at one or both this year hopefully

I changed clubs this year and I honestly can say I don't think I can imagine not being a member there. I am loving pretty much everything about my new place but do miss the guys I used to play with at my old place.

I can't see me leaving my place anytime soon. We have a green keeper doing fantastic job at getting the greens back and they are becoming the best we've had. Add in what else he is doing with the course and the work the general manger is doing running the place and it is a great place to be. Having looked around prior to the green keeper coming I would be paying more for less.

We may have crossed paths at some point then I was a member at High Peak from 1998 to 2005 or so.

We have had some drainage work done at Cavendish so some of the greens still have lines without any grass on them but they are getting better as each week goes by so if you are going to play at Cavendish I would recommend playing it later in the year if you can.

Think I may be a tad older as I left a buxton to live abroad in 96 and have never lived there since, thanks for the heads up and looks like your open is august time

Yes a little bit before my time then.

The course should be fine by August it's normally in good condition around that time of the year.
