Just got back from the World of Golf New Malden, and boy have I had some fun. I was the only person there (it was 8:00am) and basically got to try whatever I fancied for as long as I want without anyone watching.

I tried the
Callaway X20 - flew too high and felt to heavy

Taylor made burner - Couldn't hit it? Didn't like looks, feel, just didnt like it

Ping rapture - Odd sound off club face and didnt like the looks but performed well

Mizuno 57,63 - More chance of hitting Ricky Hattons nose, TonyN you must be a decent ball striker

Mizuno mx-100,mx-200 - Not bad mx-100 but felt dead compared to the mx-200, I loved the mx-200 they feel so good through impact and the ball flies miles of the head.

Titleist AP1 - Great club, loved the performance but compared to the Mizuno MX-200 felt dead

In the end I was between the AP1 + MX-200, and went for the mx-200 I am booked in for 10:00am tomorrow for fitting.

They come 3-pw, so I need a SW. TonyN how did you get the fitting bloke to offer you them so cheap? And what did you think of the wedges you tried?

HTL, I went to Clays range in Wrexham, it is where Mizuno's welsh national fitting centre is afixed(sp) to.

Once I had all the specs completed the pro gave me a few options.

1) Let him know where the specs needed to be sent to so I could order from any mizuno stockist I prefered

2) Buy from Clays golf themself, They basicaly offered me a wedge for free if I bought 8 irons as an insentive to buy from them. As an insentive from Mizuno, they offered me the bettinardi putter for £50 to encourage me to place an order within 30 days. (the option I chose)

3)Forget all about the fitting and put the specs in the bin.

If you like the Mizunos I would definitly recommend getting to a mizuno fitting centre and getting a full fitting from them. They will have you on the trackman or Vector and will fine tune your setup to as best as possible. Then you can always get mizuno to send the specs to world of golf, or better still whoever is selling them the cheapest. Hell you could probably even get the specs sent to Clays where I got mine, take advantage of the offers i did and see if they can post them too you.

But I think the putter offer is all Mizuno so if you go to your local fitting centre, they can probably offer you this there.

HTL - I have not long taken ownership of some custom fit MX-200 5-PW plus 51 & 56 degree wedges.

They are without doubt the best club I have hit. Look great at address and deliver exactly what they promise.

You could do an awful lot worse for your hard earned

A little confused now as I am not sure if you actually went to a Mizuno National Fitting Centre today.

I just had a look at where the other two are. One is in Glasgow and the other is... Well you guessed it World of Golf New Malden Click here HTL

All you have to do to get a FREE 90 min custom fit is book through your local mizuno stockist, so this could be WOG New Malden.

Yep I am going to the national fitting centre in new malden. In the world of golf shop they were asking £599 for them which takes the piss really.

How did you get the 5 - pw and two wedges option Mark? Was that a suggestion by the fitter and I hope you don't mind me asking how much did you pay?

If they don't come down in price I will just get the specs and buy some place else.

HTL, when I got mine Cf'd he asked for a local mizzy stockist to sent them to but also took my address. Within 5 days they arrived at my door, excellent service, unfortunately it was the afternoon before I flew to Egypt for two weeks. I had shiny new sticks in the bag sat at home whilst I was in the middle east Aaaaaaaaaaagh!!!!

Landed back in the UK in the early hours, got home about 7.45am and was on the course by 8.15. left HID to unpack :D

Asked about how long it takes and they said 10-14 working days, its going to seem like ages as I am trading in my Di7`s.

How long did they tell you TonyN?

HTL - I bought mine on a club by club basis.

Like most, I no longer use a 3/4 iron now that I have rescues, so I spoke to my local pro about doing a deal to pop two wedges into the deal.

I paid a net £552 for my set. I say net as I traded in my old MX-15's and got £75 (50% of the value the pro sold them on for with a couple of woods) credit in the pro shop. All in without the trade in, the lot cost me £627.

I could have probably got them cheaper elsewhere (probably as a full set with a 3 & 4 that I wouldn't use), but my pro is a good guy and I would rather support the small businesses who at least have the time to listen and take a genuine interest in what you want.

I would re-iterate again that they really are a lovely set of clubs. I am taking a some lessons now and they are coming into their own.

If you want anymore info, please just ask.

What you reckon about my choice MVP?

Whats you handicap Mark? I am playing of about 23ish at the moment but went down to about 18 in the summer, however, I have always played like a knob at every forum meet.

I liked the TonyN bit :D

Hywel, they told me between 7-10 working days, but they also said that the turn around on 52's is good ATM. I think I may have them by midweek, hopefully wed morning at latest so I can take them out for a knock.

Best thing you can do is ring around all the Mizuno stockists and see who has best offer. Why dont you ring Clays and see if you buy through them (and get the deal) would they post them.

Just say they were recommended by someone who had recently been fit and bought irons through them. (You should check though that the wedge offer applies to the model you choose and not just the 52's.)

HTL - I am currently off 24, but that is going to come down very soon.

Unfortunately, I am at the stage now where the word "bandit" is creeping in from my fellow club members. This is something that really irks me and not a term I enjoyed having attached. It has all arisen because I have been practicing really hard (3 times a week plus a lesson), but playing like a pudding in medals and stablefords.

Imagine the mixed feelings last week when I got a 5&4 against the club champion in the Winter Singles. Great cos I got a result against a very good golfer, but bad because of this bandit factor.

How can I shake this evil monicker?

You just have to keep playing in the comps and hope for a decent cut I guess.

Something I was discussing with VIG was just handing in your cards each time you play 'for handicap purposes' and see if they will cut you that way.

Maybe you could just plain and simply hand 3 cards in again and ask for a new handicap? Can this be done?

Wouldn't harm speaking to the Handicap Sec and voicing your concerns see what he/she suggests.

TonyN - thanks for the suggestion regarding putting three cards in for handicap purposes. That could be a way around my problem.

People just look at me like I'm sick in the head when I say I want to be cut.

At the same time, I want to do well and not rely on an inflated handicap to do it.

Htl,

You shouldn't have any problem getting whatever club mix you really want. That's the benefit of getting CFd for your Mizunos. I got 5-PW in a fitted set of 57 early this year and got a great price for the selection I wanted. I already had a MP FliHi 3 & 4 so didn't want to get a standard 3 & 4 in the set. They seemed to price by the iron as I got my 6 Cfd for a snip. No pressure to take the other two I didn't want.

HTL sounds like a fund day. Were you upstairs or on the bottom tier trying them out as I always find I hit further from upstairs. Surprised about the Cally's but each to their own and it sounds like you had a good try out. I'm confused though that the shop has them so high if they are a Mizuno centre. Is that the price they quoted you if you get them fitted.

I like the idea of getting the specs and giving Clays a call and seeing if they can do you a deal on the clubs plus wedges

On bottom tear mate, was 8:00am so on my own whacking balls about with loads of sticks to play with, was great.

The world of golf is now the national fitting centre and this is where I was, cant work out why they are trying to charge so much when all other places are charging about £100 less.
