Hi Guys,

Here's a 5 iron swing form earlier this morning. I'n working on getting my right shoulder behind me quicker so I keep the weight on the inside of my right foot. My BS is much more solid, but still a bit flat at 9 o'clock.

also working on my grip which had become too strong leading me to fight a pull hook. I hit this one well :)

Dean's Iron Swing

Dean,
I wouldn't be tinkering with your mechanics with that swing - I really can't see anything wrong from this 'down the line view' - looks a bloody good swing to be frank!
Reminded me a bit of Adam Scott's swing especially the set up posture.

Nice, the only thing i was just about to point out was possibly a slight over swing but your obviously now aware of that!

I don't see any overswing issue, you have an excellent shoulder turn which is taking the club round but only a tiny bit past horizontal, there is no arm lift issue.
What are you playing off? If it's more than 10 you may have some serious short game issues! Long game looks fine if you're consistently swinging it like the video.

I'm off 12 and that's down to my putting. Working on that is a drag though ;-)

I had a terrible over swing and just practiced 3/4 swings for a while. Well what i thought were 3/4 swings were actually normal full swings!

Your's doesn't look to bad though so taking a quarter off would be drastic for you probably. I could see the club head out of my left eye. If you cant then its probably not even an issue.

Wouldn't mind seeing a front facing vid of your swing.

What do you do to work on it?

I used to hate practicing my putting because i was never any good at it, and i was never any good because i wouldn't practice it, vicious circle.

But i started doing drills instead of just putting for the cup every time, ball control and length drills. To me this kept putting fun and different, now i actually enjoy it, and am not half bad at it.

Can recommend some decent drills but you can find most of em in the magazine!

*hangs head in shame* Um, I, um, don't practice it at all really. I guess I hit a few putts in on the carpet, but don't have a putting green close to get any real practice in.

do you not have one at your range?

If not, i find that if the course is quiet and no one behind me, if i have time its best to spend 20 mins or so just getting the feel of your shots for length.

I think that you have to always use the same balls if you want to be consistent.

The fact that your off 12 with out practicing or being any good at putting is quite something.

How many putts do you average per around. I reckon that after only a couple of weeks of practicing my putting i have knocked between 5 and 10 shots per round off my score. Imagine what you could do with an hour a week in the bag

Not alot wrong with ur swing m8. Just keep swinging that way and handicap will come down. Practise putting is boring but we have to do it. I dont spend to much time on it once I feel bored I jack it in.
Good swing!

Thanks, Clubchamp :-)

Tony,

I play muni courses so no chance of spending time practicing on the course. I guess I'm just making excuses really. I could easily make one trip a week to a course with a practice green instead of the range, but I just find it boring to practice my putting. I average about 34, but it's definately getting better.

Just get the lawnmower out and the garden trowel. Like i said mate, i can suggest some drills that will keep things interesting if you can find somewhere to practice or should i say play (sounds less daunting)

Its like everything, you have to practice to be any good.

Let me know if you want the drills and i'll PM you them, rather than waste space on here!

Thanks Tony :-)

The best drills I tried were by Karl Morris, the psycologist. My problems are distance control and holing out. His drill where you take one ball to the putting green, drop it down and hit it to the fringe trying to get it to stop there is great. you choose a different putt every time - like real golf. After a while you do this drill but as soon as you hit it you have to call it 'long' 'short' or 'on' and see if you're right. Great for feel...should I ever practice it ;-)

I have some other ones that are great for distance control mate, i'll pm you when i get home. Have a read and see what you think, if they don't take ya fancy no bother!

I notice your youtube descriptor says "getting my backswing more on plane" or something like that.
What was up with it? If you are trying to flatten it....STOP, enough already. If you are trying to make it more upright, then you've still got some work to do.

It's the same as mine was 6 weeks ago, identical in every respect....with the "flat" set and the overswing.

What are you trying to change? Don't want to sound down on you, but I'd hate to see you get in the mess I got in from over-drilling.
