realised that most members by now have posted a link to a video of their swing, so thought I should as well, all be it very short. Its a 6iron I was hitting and is shown from face on. I would have posted one from behind me, but don't have one at the moment.

Any advice welcomed.

Not a bad swing, mate. I'll tell you what I see.

you break your wrists right off the ball. I'm not a big fan of this, but it can work. The biggest thing I can see is you bring your head up way way too early. You need to keep your eyes on that ball a little longer and fire your right shoulder down and through the ball more.

Not a million miles away though. What are your bad shots?

to explain the thing with my head, this was taken at my lesson this morning and in order to make sure that I keep my height throughout the swing to stop me hitting too far behind the ball (I was hitting mat then ball rather than ball then mat)I was being told to be looking at the ball which you can see in front of the mat by the time I reached impact. That way I'd get used to not turning my head the other way so that it goes behind the ball resulting in me hitting the mat before the ball. This was therfore a deliberately exagerated head movement towards the target, but I'm pretty impressed you picked it up nonetheless.

My bad shot before the lesson was probably hitting it fat, but hopefully this will erradicate that following some decent practice. Shot shape wise I hit a slight draw which I like quite a lot, as I used to suffer from a terrible slice.

I don't really have a consistent bad shot that goes one set place, before the lesson when I was dropping my head quite substantially during the backswing I could hit either a nasty hook or a nasty slice, but this was down to a poor strike rather than a swing fault..even though it is a swing fault which caused the bad strike, if you see what I'm getting at.

No movement in your legs. Considering this, the swing is pretty good, but you'll never get any distance without getting those legs working.

Watch a hi-motion video of Woods teeing off to see what I mean - I wonder how he stays attached to the ground!

Am not sure there is much of a weight transfer, you don't seem to get your weight on to the right leg during your back swing.

Also, your hips hardly turn at all, but i dunno if this is a good thing or bad, You must build up a lot of torque in your torso, but shouldn't the hips rotate at least 30% (anyone?)

Other than that, not bad.

Can i ask, what is your initial thought to start your back swing as it seems you take away with your hands rather than rotation?

eagleh, all looks a wee bit quick, the transition from backswing to downswing is very quick which looks to be making you cast shoulders a little - do long clubs slice right and short clubs go straight left by chance?
Try to get your shoulder turn round more so your left shoulder is under your chin.
The fatting could be more because you weight shift could be better i.e. your weight appears to be hanging on your right side in the downswing.

If I was your coach I would say-
1 Backswing slower
2 Make a fuller shoulder turn
3 start downswing more with your body moving left and let the arms follow.

The point someone has made about the early wrist cock I'm puzzled on. Faldo popularized this move but it wasn't taken on by teaching pros until recently, apparently this is ok and encouraged by some teachers now but I still go with a one-piece wider takeaway with the wrists cocking a good bit later in the backswing.

I always thought that the back swing should start with the rotation of the body not with the arms/hands/

thanks for the advice everyone, I notice a lot of you think I must be hitting it weakly, well with that 6 iron today I was carrying it about 155 yards with range balls which I am pretty happy about, although I accept that I may be able to get even more distance.

As for my legs not moving this was also to try and restrict my head from moving backwards completely, as I was finding it difficult to put my weight on my back foot, whilst not moving my head back. Which as 23rdman said was resulting in some back pain after a round, all be it moderate, and I was told that unless I want to be unable to play golf by the age of 50 I should get it sorted. Once I get used to not moving my head back, my weight tansfer will be much better again.
