Hi all

Posted some time ago about studying sports coaching and psychology at Uni with the aim of coaching golf in the future. Well last week as part of my course I had to plan and implement 3 coaching session so naturally I did them on golf. It was brilliant. I took a guy from work with not much talent or experience and by the end he showed genuine improvement and that was such a great feeling.

I based the lessons on Dave Peltz's finesse swing and clock face pitching control. Started with the basics of grip & set up then moved on to the clock face distance control. Then we had a playing lesson with a conditional game I came up with on the par 3 course. Obviously with it being university I had to do a lot of reading into coaching techniques and write a literature review but this was very interesting in itself. You hear many people on hear advocating varying practice and not beating balls and it is so true at least once the basic techniques are ingrained anyway.

Loved every minute of it and has motivated me even more to get my level 1&2s in the spring.

Sounds great, will look forward to hearing more about it in the future. Out of interest do you have to be a certain standard/ability in the sport to be allowed to coach like you did today? :)

Not that I know of. I did not charge anything for it and had consent from the guy I was teaching and he knew I was unqualified. I also asked permission from the driving range and explained to them what I would be doing.
