Popped out for as many holes as I could squeeze in after work, no warm up just a practise swing on the first tee. Went and birdied the first hole which is my first ever birdie (decided to play off the whites too as I've entered my first comp this weekend). I ended up 4 under my handicap after 13 holes so was pretty chuffed, that included a triple bogey on one hole too!

Bring on the weekend!

Good man I bladdered a few earlier this year, actually went on a birdie fest. But with the tees being massively back it won't happen for a month or so yet.

well done mah man.

As simple as that post was, I enjoyed reading it.

Well done, it'll give you confidence going forward and that's a huge thing to have.

As a follow up, I played my first ever competition today and had another birdie, par 3....8 iron hit perfect and finished 1 foot from the flag, was the hardest 1 foot putt i have ever had. The least said about the rest of the round the better, but glad the first one is out of the way.

well done mate! birdies are a fantastic feeling.. ive had a few now myself.. couple that were nearly hole in 1s so a tap in birdie is a nice consolation.. then had one where i couldnt find my ball turned out I had driven the back of the green lol 2 putt birdie..

think my greatest feeling one (even tho probably wasnt as fancy as the others) was a par 5, drive 180 yards.. 5 wood to get it within 150 to go.. 6 iron over water straight onto the green then 18 foot putt.. looked like it had stopped on the edge then just dropped.. lovely

Top man. Keep it going. See how long it takes you to birdie every one.

Well done, one more than me today !

unfortunately the 10, 2x8's and a 7 really didn't help. A lot of those were due to very poor tee shots, I was actually striking my irons really nicely. It just means more time on the range with the big stick

Or a lesson? Sometimes the quickest and better longer term solution. Get in in play is a must to stop the big numbers. Keep going. It'll come

I agree, I am having regular lessons at the minute, but I have been focussing on my irons. Now I am pretty confident with them (or at least know where I have gone wrong) I can change the focus of the lessons. Its the consistency that keeps me back, distance isn't a problem on my good ones, its the direction of the poor ones which is causing the damage.

Thats officially 3 birdies in a month now as I had another at the weekend. Par 5 (Hole 7 at Throston Golf club in hartlepool, if anyone knows it), made the green in 2, missed the eagle putt an tapped in for birdie.

Looks as though making the range my second home throughout the first few months of this year is paying off
