My Club, Wike Ridge, Leeds, is Runner-up as 'Most Welcoming Club' in EGU Awards

2blue, I played there last year and was hugely impressed by the set up and welcome both in the shop and the café / bar. Very friendly and welcoming. It was a relaxed club that gave out inviting vibes. I am not at all surprised that the club did well in this competition. Keep it up, it does get noticed.

I used to play here when i was at Uni and I loved the place! I didnt really play back then, it was just for a laugh with mates and this place was the only local place we felt comfortable and welcome.

Played here often on twilight deals about 6/7 years ago and always enjoyed it. True story, I once got on through tee off times for £3

I hear its been quite significantly revamped?

I thought the clubhouse was tremendous. The bar area was a mixture of bar and café, cleverly separated by design but both sections suitable for their target market. Certainly inviting for families, not off putting for those who find golf clubs stuffy. The course is not the most exciting but the clubhouse would get a 10 from me.

After near £4M investment over same number of years, you would hardy recognise it from the 'goat track' it originally was :D

Yes know what you mean about that.... N Leeds has many 'more established' courses than Wike but all are pretty stuffy & not easy to become accepted in..... & only Alwoodley, Moortown & Headingley provide better winter playing conditions. This winter Wike has only been shut for snow, once I think.
Uni guys turn up in numbers for the 'FootGolf'... it can take £2K on a weekend.... keeps our Subs down

a great place this one would often play it when i worked in Harrogate. Well deserved.
I'm just starting my 4 yr here.... have watched the steady improvement, year on year.

And yet, I've never had an invite... 😉

It's a good value 12mnths of the year course that's very welcoming & easy to play in any weather conditions with no 2 holes the same.... suits me..... Oh, also tremendous practice facilities
To be honest, it's not the kind of course worth travelling across the Pennines for.... but if you're ever over this way, gizza shout.

Very good for the club Dave.

The EGU doesn't exist anymore Dave. It's now England Golf since they joined forces with the LGU a few years ago.

Yes, can only be good for the Club, Glyn, as its on the "up" & is attracting a good few single figure golfers from local Clubs as well as holding onto the Juniors who are moving up....beginning to become a better balanced Club Handicap wise.
Haha.... well I never.... I won our "EGU 'Gold Medal'" last year & it's called the same this year........ I'll up-date our Comp Sec, Glyn!!
I'm hoping my -4 Net Diff, will get me in the Regional at Preston GC in June as I've booked into their B/ball Open, to recci the course, a week before. Maybe seeking a partner from the NW yet... watch this space.

I have played this course recently and before its refurbishment and it fits the profile of the modern golf course with vast facilities and plays its part in growing the game with the introduction of foot golf. More traffic can only be a good thing right? Means more money to fund different things.
