After several months of disappointing golf, I had my first cut this year. Roll up stableford yesterday - it was just me and my mate Dave going out at 11.30 after a packed field - so it was slow. We warmed up with a Peroni and stopped for one after 7 - as it was clear behind and slow in front!! And I might have had a few more afterwards!!

Front 9 - eight greens in regulation - 3 putted 5. Poor 5 iron in to 7, into the wind, chipped on, 2 put for bogey.

Back 9 - unlucky on 11, being one foot into the thick second cut, 2 foot from the green and only 15 from the flag - bogey!! Lowlight - completely duffed T shot on 13 into the lake - double bogey - nearly a bogey after a good approach but slightly missed a 6 footer. Another bad approach on 17 into the bunker - tough shot, but gave myself a chance with a 12 footer - and it went in and out!! Tension building - poor T shot on 18 but found the first cut on 1 :D Decent hybrid in to flag at the front - unlucky bounce left in 3 inches from falling into left-hand bunker - good chip left a fairly easy 3 footer - and I had only missed one put under 7 feet all day - and I missed it!!

All in all very happy - won the comp by one shot on count-back!!!! My first ever win in a singles comp - albeit a pretty casual one. One bad T shot and 2 close shaves from a 3 over!! But, hey-ho - gives me a lot more confidence!! Roll on Help for Heroes:ears::ears::thup:

Good work Paul. I played earlier and played rubbish.

But I must still ask, decent tee shot on 18th, followed by ....... a hybrid?

Hi Martin - it was a poor T shot - nearly in the bunker on 1. Conditions were quite easy for more than half the round but by 13 the wind started howling and 15-17 was a slog. 18 also seemed to be into the wind. I left myself 180 on 18 so hit a 21 hybrid into 18 into the wind.

Fantastic!

I would say 'Unbelievable' but that would be taking the Mick too much.

Potential has always been there, just a case of stringing a decent number of good holes together.

West Hill could well suit you - as long as you stay out of the heather!

Good timing Paul with the big Hayling match looming on the horizon ;)

Great round.
My biggest cut was by 2.4 in a round. Playing off 14 last year I went round Royal ascot in a midweek stableford (yellow tees) with 7 pars and two bogeys on the front nine and the same on the back nine.
Unfortunately, we were the last group out and our handicap secretary was waiting at the 18th green for our cards. I (stupidly) didn't check my card before signing it and handing it to the h/c sec' but had just said to my marker " 37 (2 0ver) for 23 points on the front the front and 37 for 23 on the back" to which he agreed. His totals on the card confirmed this, but unfortunately he had marked me on the 7th Par 4 as 3 for 2 points instead of 5 for 2 points, so I had signed for an incorrect score.
The handicap sec was very apologetic, as had I been given the chance to enter the score in our electronic PSI before posting the score, I would have spotted the error and had it amended before posting the card. After some phone calls it was decided that rather than being DQ'd, they could withdraw me from the competition and accept the card as general play. The par 70 course played of a CSS of 68 that day so I was cut from 14.1 to 11.7. Was a bit gutted to say the least that I had signed for an incorrect card, but got the handicap cut I wanted.
If I play better than my handicap now, I always check the strokes recorded individually.

Well done Paul, didn't see that one coming.;) Just hope you get a good draw at West Hill so you can talk your partners through the round in more detail.

I'd love to play with Paul and hear him recreate the round blow by blow ............ Sorry! Just remembered I'm playing with Jezz from GM and those who've paid £20. You don't know how sad I am to miss that opportunity of a lunchtime!
