Played with Parmo at Roundhay today and carded, for the first time ever, sub 80! Finished with a gross 79, nett 61 on a par 70 (SSS 65)....but it doesnt feel like i've truly broken 80 as its a short course with a low SSS....am I making sense?

To be fair, I'm over the moon with how I played as I carded 9 pars & 9 bogeys, no train wrecks, no slip ups, but it still doesnt feel like i've broken the magical (for me) sub 80 barrier!

On a brighter note, it was nice to meet Parmo and his missus and Roundahy, although short, is a pretty little track and well worth the £10.50 green fees.

For a long hitter though, there are some belting holes that present really good eagle/birdie chances, just a shame that I made a hash of my 9 birdie chances lol

Nice one dude - great golf. That is properly consistent...9 pars and 9 bogeys...no doubles, no OOBs, no cock ups. Very, very good stuff

You break 80, you break 80. Who cares if it's 70, 71 or 72. It's sub-80 and proper golf. Get in! :D

Couple of pints to wash that down and it's an all round top day!

79 is 79 however you cut it up. I've played a lot of really short tracks in my time and they are actually the ones that give me the most problems as they are normally set up tight and have very well thought out bunkering and rough.

The great thing I can see is your consistancy. No one bad hole and obviously a few putts went in too. Enjoy it and don't be too hard on yourself.

I know what you mean, it being a short course and all. But look at your round tomorrow, and think whether you deserved a sub 80 score.

I bet if they'd made it a few hundred yards longer, you'd still deserve the result.

Wp, and give yourself the credit.

Keefg, welcome to the 70's club and well done :D
What made the difference?
Driver going well?
hybrids flying high?
more GIR?
good bunker play?
chipper on form?
putter red hot?

or did you just cheat ;) ;) ;)
Well played mate :D

Well done that man, did you retire the ball? I did when I first shot in the 70's. It was a great moment for me. I knew I could do it and after a long wait it felt good to crack it.

Dont be surprised if you shoot another one soon, but dont be surprised if you dont shoot one for ages either. Thats golf!

LMAO - I dont cheat!! Parmo will testify to that :)

Thanks for all the comments guys, after sleeping on it I do feel better about it. Afterall, the usual 2 or 3 train wrecks didnt happen and that helped me to shoot sub 80, so yes, I feel a million times better about it this morning.

Driver going well? - yes it worked well, only 2 wayward drives I think but I got lucky with both.
hybrids flying high? - only used it twice as its not flavour of the month at present, both times were good though.
more GIR? - only hit 40% GIR
good bunker play? - only hit 3 bunkers, and hit my first ever bunker shot that flew out high, pitched and then spun back :D tried to do it again and failed lol
chipper on form? - lmfao
putter red hot? - 33 putts so not too bad.

Only two words... bloody bandit ;)

Thanks Keith for a great round you could have left the driver at home the way you strike irons.

I have to admit, the irons worked quite well yesterday :D

I hit a 5 iron sweet as a nut from 205yds on the 13th and left it about 15ft away. The thing with Roundhay is though, as its a short course and my driver worked well, after my tee shot it was only leaving a wedge into most greens apart from the 2nd & 11th.

Well played Keef!

That's a great score. Roundhay may be short, but it's still tricky and you do have to hit the ball straight to score well there.

I'm looking forward to meeting up with Parmo on Tuesday. Don't know if I'll beet 79 though. ;)
