Ola!

Ladies and Gentlemen of the GM Forum, good afternoon. So, niceities aside, here is another putter thread from yours truly.

Sightlines on putters, or lack thereof more importantly. Good idea? Do you have a no sightline putter and do you use it to good/bad/indifferent effect? I've tried nearly every style of putter under the sun, but my forray in to flatsticks (is that alliteration? almost) has yet to involve a no sightline beast.

Putting (wha-hey!) the comments about it being 'me' and not the putter aside (i know it's me, clearly), what do you think the benefits are for a no sightline putter, if any?

Without a new putter every six weeks my life is meaningless and I feel a husk of a man.

Good question, I think I have one but can't be sure as I don't use it. I line the logo on the ball up across the target line and line the face up with that.

Only putter I've ever used with no sight line was an old Acushnet Bullseye and never gave it any thought apart from lining up the ball to where the head meets the shaft - maybe there's a bit of taking care in making sure the line in sighted putters matches exactly with the half way point in the golf ball whereas with the old bullseye it was a bit more instinctive (if that's the right word)...last time I used it was in a one club competition where I drove a short par 4 with it and knocked it out of the bunker :)

I have a sight line on my Del Mar and use it.

However.

I had a few holes putting with my Dads Scotty Cameron Newport Beach 1.5 that doesn't have a sight line.

If anything I putted better without the alignment mark

I struggle with aiming my putts once I'm stood over the ball, so I use the line on the flange of the putter with the line on the ball.

Is it behaving or are you using something else?

it behaved immediately.....but (theres always a but) I reckon non offset suits me better as much as I like the offset look. So trying a Seemore FGP when the greens re-open

Just retired my Acushnet Bullseye a few months back - and it does have a couple of parallel line notches on the top indicating sweet-spot (I always assumed). Top of bullseye is so narrow you could hardly call the lines 'sightlines' but I guess that is what they could also be used for. BTW - my bullseye (flange) was 1984 vintage.

I used a bullseye putter quite a bit this summer. there is no sightlines on it. I find it grand to putt with except on short putts. its easy to push or pull the shorter ones with no alignment aid.

one thing I will say about having no line is that you just roll the putter without trying to put the line back on the ball. if you are not concentrating on a line, you just stoke more freely.

Pushing and pulling short putts - yup that's me. Why I changed - that and folks taking the proverbial. A bit of a wrench but my replacement (Odyssey White Hot Pro #2 CS) is probably about as close as you can get in a modern putter to a bullseye - and I am already developing a deep love of my OWHP - I don't miss these <3 footers no more - mostly.

I can just see the paintings hanging on the walls in clubhouses up and down the country in 100 years. golfers on the green with trainer shoes and putters that looks like white dinner plates. there is a small sign that reads, please repair your pitch and adizero marks. I can see it now!

give me plus fours, hickory shafts and a bullseye putter in those paintings any day!

I have one on my putter but don't use it, consciously anyway. I have used a putter without a sightline and it didn't bother me one bit.

Presently I am switching between 2 Scotty's, 1 with and one without, didn't consciously realise I was using the sight line but miss it when it's not there, guess I need to mark one on the plain putter
