Saw an offer on Direct-TeeTimes weekly Email for a round at Tilgate Forest for £1/person!

So booked it and later thought it would be good to drag JO out!

Certainly worth the cost, though the greens were in the worst condition I've ever seen - anywhere! The 1 Temporary was probably better than all but 2 of the normal ones (9 and 18 typically).

Good to shake some of the cobwebs off and put the world to rights.

I hope that this thread hasn't got the making of the 28 pages that Scottish independence has been dragged out to

£1. I played it a few years ago for £6 and thought it was a bargain. Liked the design of the course and thought it had a few decent holes. It was a tad wet when I played it as well!

James told me he completely stuffed you!

Yeah. I finally got tired of sinking putts!

Definitely good layout. Drainage is dire and trees need a clearout to let air though onto greens and tees. Forgotten how marginal the area actually is investment/return wise for Golf. Had impressed me quite a few years ago - the layout mainly - but that was in Summer.

Nice to see you two kiss and make up :)
Did he give you any tips?

When I saw the thread title I thought "only 5 hours" either JO is slacking or they've had a tiff :)

We were all square with 16, 17 & 18 to play then a couple of double bogies by Foxholer and we were shaking hands on the 17th green.

Some good shots mixed in with a handful of lame chips pretty much sums up the round for both of us.

Foxy won both the holes that he got a shot on (which is what you're supposed to do) and holed some nice [read as 'FLUKED'] putts which kept the scores nice and close :p

We both played a fairly solid round, no fireworks, no shambles. Matchplay does make you have to take on a shot here and there that you might otherwise avoid if your score was important. I did make a couple of 'forced errors' as I only had a 6-iron, 8-iron and a 50° gap wedge which isn't my chipping club or my bunker club but it was enjoyable having to try a and 'create' a few shots here and there, even though I mostly failed :p ...and I really, really, really, REALLY need a laser. My judgement whether something is 130yds or 120yds clearly isn't accurate enough.

The course was firm(ish) under foot but the greens were bare, uneven and had a ton of water damaged areas where they'd clearly flooded in previous weeks. Putting was a lottery but from tee to green both of us played pretty much OK.

The course (I would say) was worth the £1 fee..... but not a penny more!!!

Was happy with my 2&1 win of course - clearly the better golfer won :D :D :whoo:

It's a shame to read about the condition of the course as I've heard in the past that its a nice layout. Used to be quite highly ranked as municipals go.

Glad you 2 got on well, I was half expecting to hear on the news that a body had been found in some woods near Crawley!

£1 is about all Tilgate Forest is worth. I played there in an NAPGC qualifier a few years ago. The greens as you say are shocking
