In Birmingham we have a large entertainment centre called Star City that people in the area will have most probably heard of and may of visited. There is a VUE cinema, bowling complex, casino and many restraunts on the premises.

Anyway recently on the Muslim celebration of eid the complex caused upraw by preventing entry to any non Muslims including a family I know who where told by traffic wardens that they had to turn around as it was a night for Muslims only.

The Star City managment have spoken since and have claimed that this is not true but knowing a family with kids who where turned away and the many many stories all over social media it appears that the management are now trying to cover this outrage up.

Here is a screenshot of from the official VUE cinema twitter page that would seem to prove the story is correct.

Is this right? A Muslim only night/zone in Great Britain?

Yep as I said they are claiming its not true but why would the official VUE cinema say it is, a family I personally know get turned away and hundreds of other outraged customers who also got turned away?

Twitter feeds have certainly in the past proven to be very unreliable so i wouldn't use that as cast iron proof

Nor a traffic warden - which the story could have easily been manipulated from - "the place is being used by Muslims to celebrate the end of Ramadam"

I know Star City can be hell for traffic on any normal night let alone if it's being used for a religious celebration.

When there is more actual confirmed statements from proper sources then it could just as easily be Chinese whispers and it wouldn't be the first time.

At the moment I would say it's a non story

It would seem that VUE cinemas had reason to believe that there was some sort of policy in place again in this tweet...

The little blue tick next to the VUE cinema logo confirms the account as official and VUE cinema is a pretty big company to be throwing random stuff around on twitter. It would seem that they are trying to make it clear that the policy was not there own.

is it any different to a group hiring an entire venue for a private function/ party.

just say the Darby & Joan club had its national rally at Star city and took over the whole venue, If you arent a member, you dont get in. fair enough

If this the case then they should have given more notice that the complex was closed for a private function.

If on the other hand, it was a night set aside for people of a particular colour/ religion with no guest list ie, a free for all . then I do think that this gives the wrong message and someone has made a faux pas

Maybe it was a few idiotic traffic controllers who believe they had the power to decide what race and religion would be let in on there night of celebration. Either way the VUE cinema Twitter page seemed to think there was some sort of policy in place.

Again it's not cast iron proof

Until someone actually comes up with this policy with some actual backing it's just a social media rumour.

I would certainly expect a lot more outrage in main stream if it was true and some articles in some media outlets - even local ones if there was something substantial at the moment

So would a friend of mine telling me that him his wife and kids where told this is a Muslim only night you will have to turn around not class as some solid evidence?

There is no smoke without fire...

Who actually turned him away ? An employee of Star City stating that he is not allowed in because he isn't a Muslim ? Or was he told that Star City tonight has lots of Muslims celebrating the end of Ramadam and it's busy etc

So no it's not hard evidence

And it's been proved many times on social media that there is always lots of smoke created from nothing

Even reading the Facebook comments on this is embarrassing - all these claims suddenly appearing over the last couple of years

Religion is not defined by ones race[/QUOTE]

Very true, and this makes the whole situation even worse. Should they of not said excuse me are you Muslim before assuming he wasn't just because of his skin colour?

I dont think I could care less.

Great for you
Not sure it counts as concrete or not. But hid is a cinema manager and they have one staff member each shift responsible for media. So I would imagine some instruction would have been given for the twitter feed. Be that a manager of the centre or the cinema. Unfortunatley these instances are becoming more and more frequent. Whilst I'm sure racial intolerance is partly responsible for the hate campaign that swiftly follows, i can't remember many other religions being given such protection from all political corners.

Could it be possible it was just one idiot staff member using Eid as an excuse to knock people back due to the sheer number of visitors? I can't see the Casino accepting regular punters getting refused entry to the Complex.
