Thinking about the best concert thread and some of the bands I've seen, I've had some very pleasant surprises with some of the guests who have appeared. Over the years I've seen Stevie Wonder join George Benson to do the keyboards for On Broadway, Tina Turner popping on stage to do It's Only Love with Bryan Adams, the Dire Straits warm up gig for the Nelson Mandela concert featured a stand-in guitarist called Eric Clapton, Ronnie Wood joining Rod Stewart at the Royal Albert Hall but possibly the most impressive line up of guests had to be Susan Tedeschi, Derek Trucks, Ronnie Wood & Slash joining B B King on stage at the Royal Albert Hall.

So who has been your best surprise addition to the band that you were expecting to see?

Slash and Lemmy playing at Download was great. The Foo Fighters and Seasick Steve, Metallica and Glen Danzig, all awesome

The Beach boys bringing on........Christopher Cross.

One that was brilliant was Billy Joel saying that one of his roadies was always banging on about doing a song, so he introduced him and he sang "Highway to Hell" and he brought the house down - he was absolutely boss!!!!!

Back in the mid 70's, three of us were hanging around in Dublin at the end of a coarse fishing holiday.
We stumbled across a poster advertising a Thin Lizzy concert in Dublin, that very night ........................ and I adore Thin Lizzy.
Turned up, blagged our way in, wearing rather smelly fishing clothing, and watched an absolutely awesome set.
Their guitarists at the time were Scott Gorham and Brian Robertson ........................ and they had three guests that night, in their home town.
They were Snowy White (Bird of Paradise), Eric Bell (Whiskey in the Jar) and the great Gary Moore.
Oh my God, what an evening that was!

That is one I would have liked to have seen, although stood a few feet away from you….. ;)

Mid 70s, blimey they weren't even well known then. When did Gary Moore first play with them, and Snowy White must have been in his teens.

I saw all of those at their last ever gig in UK at Hammersmith Odeon in about 82 I think.

I was there too, I think they were supported by Mama's Boys.

You're all right
I saw them a couple of years later first on at Milton Keynes
followed by
jethro Tull
Magnum (storytellers night era)
Gary Moore
Marillion

That was a good gig

When was this. Fish era Marillion I guess. Much my preferred incarnation although the Hogarth era has had some great stuff and their first album (Seasons End)
