Ive been and played twice and on both those occasions there was not another sole on the course, so i don't think it ever gets that busy.

But they could have their own reasons for thinking of another course. Not sure what i would be though?

As patricks148 says there never appears to be more than a handful on the course.

A possible women’s only course to get round the no woman members issue. Surely they wouldn’t go to such lengths to have no women members on the real Muirfield.

Way too many golf courses around this area. I would imagine some local opposition to this as less and less coast around that area is free of golf courses.

Luffness, Gullane 1 2 and 3, Murfield, Archerfield, The Renaissance and North Berwick West all within a few miles. They near join each other.

A member I was talking to about this a few weeks back said when they considered it in the past they came up against some habitat/environmental issues which, perhaps with other reasons, led them to abandon the idea. I too can't see it as anything other than a cynical attempt to circumvent the 'No Ladies' issue*. Maybe they'll build a completely separate clubhouse and entrance driveway too just in case they had to meet a lady. The more I learn about the club the less I'd like to visit.

* the other option of course is that it is a non-story dug up from an old rumour.
