As a 3ball we played with 3 points available to win on each hole, A 60 yr old won the front 9, a 67yr old won the back 9 and the overhaul . The young buck buckled, we even let him keep the scores.

Ha! I was utter rubbish today and not even mats / rough drops can excuse my performance. At least the bar was wet.

williamalex1- explain that format in depth- it's great for a 3-ball. Really fun, particularly in poorer conditions.

Ok, I'll try- 3 points are available on each hole,

If all 3 players score the same on a hole they get 1 point each

If say player A scores say a 4 player B scores 5 player C scores say a 6, the points would be A-2points B-1 point C=0.

If say player A scores say a 4 and players B and C both score say 7 the points would be player A-2 points players B and C a 1/2 point each

If say players A and B score say 4s and player C has say a 5 , the points would be player A and B would get 1 1/2 each , player C-0 points.

basically if you win the hole outright you get 2 points, second alone gets 1 point , joint second get a 1/2 point each.

We have always played the same kind of game with 6 points a hole:

"Split six
Handicap allowance is ¾ of difference from lowest of 3 players in group.
6 points per hole at stake on each hole – either 4-2-0, 4-1-1,
3-3-0, or 2-2-2.
Rules of golf for strokeplay apply although putts may be conceded if other 2 players agree."
