Yesterday the mud at our course seemed to be just the right consistency to stick to golf balls in quite big lumps. I hit some shots from the rough or semi-rough that had some very strange trajectories, something like an out of control November 5th rocket. On one occasion I didn't bother to pick clean and place under Winter rules on the fairway, because the ball looked clean and was lying nicely, but got the same problem. I guess that the ball either had a lump of mud underneath that I couldn't see, or picked up some mud as I hit it. Does anybody know a way of predicting the flight and distance of a mud ball? They all seemed to lose distance btw.

Well scientist could help you but other than that it's pretty much unpredictable

And if you didn't bother to pick and clean then there is only one area at fault

Bloody hell Del is there nothing on a course that doesn't happen to you or annoy you? It's still winter golf and conditions aren't ideal. Accept it and deal with it and consider how lucky you are to be playing rather than many on here where their courses are firmly closed

Anything else you would like to have a go at me about?!!!

I have a vague recollection of a tour pro saying the ball will tend to go in the direction that mud id stuck to.
