Has anyone played Muckart GC? Me and a few of the lads are heading for a round there next Sunday as its kind of central to us all and I just wondered if anyone had any thoughts on course before we confirm booking?

Good course / Bad course / other courses in area that are better etc.

Thanks

HH

I am a member there, as is Hellbunker.

Can't recommend it highly enough, in fantastic nick at the moment, and a good test. The best course in the area. Always in good condition, good variety of holes and never really busy.

It's hosting a young professionals comp this week.

The designated 18 at the moment is the "traditional" 18 (Arndean/Cowden), but try and play the "new" 9 (Naemoor) as well if you can. Three very different 9's

Ah nice one. Glad we've picked what sounds like a great course for a wee work jolly. Only four of us playing but its a little Glasgow v Edinburgh match lined up.

If things go well two of us might join it as I see they are offering some v competitive rates for under 30's. Myself and a colleague play a semi regular ball on a Sunday and as this course is between us it could suit quite well.

I'll post how we get on when we get back on Sunday afternoon (just in time for the singles!)

Where do you stay HH?

I'm not wanting to blow Muckhart's trumpet, but I've played some good courses this year - Kingsbarns x 2, Dalmahoy, Rosemount. Muckhart was in better condition than any of them. I would highly recommend joining it, with the three 9's you can get a game anytime, even when the medal is on.

Another top course is Auchterarder, quite short, but some cracking holes.

Stay just on the other side of the bridge so its only a 15/20 minute drive for me.

Just back from our match at Muckhart. Played the Arndean/Cowden 18 as that was the designated 18 holes for today. Fantastic track with amazing views. Quite soggy underfoot today but has been a fair bit of rain last fortnight with heavy dew this morning. Greens were good and v smooth to put on. Unfortunately my 2ball lost the match to my on fire 12 handicapper colleage (he carried his partner). The Bandit shot 76 and was holing from everywhere!

Anyways, long story short, 2 of us have forms away to think about joining. Think they are doing a good deal at moment for rest of 2008 and 2009 subs for just the 2009 price.

For the Muckhart members on here, whats the course like in winter and with water? Do you lose many days to winter greens etc?

Hi HH,

Glad you enjoyed it. Winter at Muckhart is good. The Naemoor and Cowden are on full greens (with the exception of 2 holes on Cowden - 15 and 18. Course has only been closed when there has been snow. Arndean is on winter greens.

Only on winter greens when there is loads of frost.

Sounds good Steve. Definitely smitten with place. Plus mate had a young son whos interested in golf so its good that there is a large practise area and can play only nine holes etc.

Maybe have to meet up for a game sometime when I join, you can show me the members lines!!

Well the deed is done. The forms are in for two new members and just waiting to hear from secretary. All things being well hoping to pop up on Sunday and play 18. We will definitely need to sort that game Steve.
