Big chance to go world number 1 gone a miss Today.

73 today which on the top scores was really pretty poor. I would like to see Westwood get to number 1 but golf like that does not deserve it!!!

So did the nerves get to him again???

I dont think he bottled it, he is not 100% with the calf and is now out for the rest of the year. He has been excellent over the last 2 years and so yes I believe he deserves it, certainly a lot more than woods, who is only still no1 because of the crazy way the rankings work, woods has hardly lifted a club over the the last year, but is still no 1 based on the %ratio of tournaments and points gained against starts made over 2 years, or something like that.
I would have loved to see westwood win, he didnt, but still no1 for sure!
:)

He has been carrying an injury for the past 3 months, and was only about 80% recovered for the Ryder Cup

He has aggravated it, im reading nothing more into it

Fragger

It must have been pretty hard playing golf having to get physio after every round and having it iced every evening.....In my eyes he shot a good score for his condition........Im not a massive fan of him but my hats off to him for finishing it.....I think the reason he didnt throw the towel in also is inpart that he didnt want to leav his sponsors and his friends down as well as the main sponsor of the event!

Totally agree. He's not fit and really only carried on this week on th eoff chance he'd find something special. It'll be a shame if he can't defend next week in Portugal but he really needs to be careful and makes sure it doesn't become a serious and long term issue. I reckon he still has a good chance of getting to number 1 especially when the WGC events start again.

To me the guy is trying to be the best (rightly so) but in that you have to compare him to the best and Tiger won the us open in 2008 with a broken leg....

heard him talking yesterday, he said he never kept fit and only realised after his last injury how unfit he is.hope it isnt too late. all the players do loads of fitness training. if he gets his finger out he could be number 1 for a while. (although far too many youngsters upping their game)

Strange how Kaymer looked out of sorts at the Ryder Cup, especially in the singles, yet today he played superbly. Think he will be number one in the world before long.

Just to stick a spanner in the works here but looking at his last few comps and on this weekends form i think that Martin Kaymer has a very good chance of reaching that no.1 spot also........He's got the complete package and doesnt seem to buckle under pressure at all....If anything he gets better........
His Iron shot off the road today was nothing short of spectacular....

Westwood suffers from asthma a lot,he seems to get weaker
on the last few holes,if hes drinking and taking antibiotics
theres no wonder hes not 100 percent,if he wants to be no 1
stop the boozing..

Have to agree with that and to add martin has a major win under his belt!!!

Westwood doesn't drink. I know that for a fact, other than a day off the wagon after the Ryder Cup, I believe.

My understanding is that mathematically, Lee will become no.1 in a short while regardless.

2-year rolling points system, apparently.

Then again, never trust statistics... :o

I can't help wonder how Kaymer could be relatively out of sorts last weekend, especially in the singles and suddenly come back and show the same form he had earlier in the year. Team player?

Or maybe just had a bad few days
I don't doubt he put as much effort into the RC as anyone else. He has real quality in his game and looks to be the whole package, very impressed with how he closed out the USPGA Championship.
I would like to see Westwood get to World No.1, he is putting the effort in to try and do it. I do feel that he and others are getting their chance because Tigers points average is coming down. Tiger in my opinion is still the golfer with the most ability, but needs to start producing the results to keep his no.1 spot.

So I hear. Apparently, he made the decision a while back.

His newly-found light-weight status might explain his hangover the day after the RC. :)
