Hi guys bit of help needed I've recently been in the market for new irons I currently play off 23 but its improving loads recently I've been offered a set of mp62s good condition and love the look of them the only problem is I think they're a bit of a better players iron maybe more bladed than I'm used to with my ci9s? Would these suit me or would I be wasting my time trying to use irons that are too good for me?
I'd love to go try them out somewhere but can't find anywhere that stocks them!
Any advice welcome
Cheers

If you strike the ball we then they will be fine. If you have a tendency to hit it not quite out the middle then you will experience some hand sting and very short distances.

Why are you wanting to change as the Ci9 is a good GI iron.
What do you want from the new irons?

Half the battle of using clubs is liking the look of them. If you can try them before buying, great, go give them a bash.

I tell everyone I play with this, if you enjoy playing with them, use them. Don't let anyone ever tell you that you're not good enough to play a certain club, its utter tosh. Don't get me wrong, they will not be as forgiving as your Ci9's or a GUI iron but if you enjoy playing with them, buy them.

Nope the potential seller doesn't live near me so no way to try them out anywhere :s I'm a fairly solid ball striker but like most players my handicap prone to the odd mishit

I would honestly love to find out how much ball striking improves if a higher handicapper played with a better player/blade irons. I think you would improve faster purely because of the negative feedback that results from a bad shot. Either that or never be able to grip something properly again ;)

Me too mate I'd love to be able to use them and get on with them! But I don't want to buy them and they be no used it me!! Big time dilemma here ha

If you are getting them at the right price worst case scenario if you don't get on with them, stick them on eBay. You'll get your money back.

Have a look on ebay for single clubs - quite a few 6 and 7irons available. I had a demo Mp52 in my bag for a few weeks before I took the plunge and bought a full set

I cant really comment as i dont know how well you hit the ball.

I played the mp 62s for 2 seasons.

They were more a players iron than mid to high handicap imo.

Id suggest you get all the help u can with irons and maybe get something more forgiving. Unless you are a consistent ball striker???

I have set of MP63's and love them. Not the 62's as per the op but the next incarnation.

They aren't the most forgiving iron on the market so of you're not a confident striker with your irons they definately let you know it.

Having said that. A bad shot with any club is still a bad shot. With GI irons like your C series you'll get a better result than hitting a 'players' club.

Also consider how the ball launches for you. GI irons are designed to launch the ball quickly, due to the COG being moved back in the head. With players irons the the weight isn't as far back so the ball launches lower. You could probably off set that with a higher launching (lighter) shaft, but it's still worth a little thought.

If you can find a test set to hit prior to buying that would be ideal.

You could buy at golfbidder who offer a 7 day try and return service on used irons

No GI irons when I first started, blades or blades, December mornings could be a bitch when you caught a thin one, them spoons, mashies and clerks were tricky too :funk::funk::funk::swing::thup:

Id go for them mate. I play with Di11s which offer even more help than CI9. I've just spent two and a half weeks playing with an old set of Titleist DCI 981s which only offer a tiny bit of help and noticed my game was improving alot with these as I was making sure that everthing was right. I was even hitting the ball further in the end. Seen a big difference with the lower irons 7,8 and 9.

I always remember my dad telling me "look good, feel good, will be good" and if you get a good feeling from them go for it as you will be happier when you play.

I may be the voice of doom but having gone from a decent set of clubs (TM Tour Preferred - granted not in the 62 league) and regressed to a GI set in the G25 I wish I had done it ages ago. When I was on with the TM's it was fine but if the timing was out then distance and forgiveness was an issue. If you can't try before you buy then I personally wouldn't go for them. Are there any in a local AG or DG you can hit?
