Hi People:

In the three months since I returned to golf I have increased my Driver swing speed to 85mph or so and my 6 iron speed around 66-70mph but I felt the R flex clubs I was using were getting a little hard to swing towards the end of the round. That said I have been shooting in the mid 80's on my 6100 yard par 72 home course.

This past weekend I found a set of Adams V3 Iron set with A Flex. 4,5,6 are Hybrids and 7-PW and GW say they are hybrids as well. I added Adams Tight Lies 4 Wood and Callaway Steelhead 7 Wood in an A Flex. As well as a Cleveland DST 12 degree Driver, A Flex.

I shot an 82 with 32 putts (I did not putt well for me) but they were so much easier to swing and to get the ball airborne. The feeling was very muted at impact which is good if you have Arthritis as I do.

The clubs do not scream out senior to me and I have no issue at the age of 40 of using it. To me it has just made golf easier to play. It did not turn the clubs into hook machines (I hit quite a straight ball and rarely lose the ball to the left) and it cost me less than $180. So, I will keep them in the bag and see how it goes.

Craig.

Only thing that matters is your score, good to see you have found something that works for you. I know from swinging different flex shafts I see little difference in ball flight but I like the feel better of stiffer shafts. Nice shooting.

Pardon my ignorance, what does A-flex actually mean? Is it similar to senior flex?

Yes. Think A stood for 'amateur' in old days now more commonly called senior flex but still has A on shafts - couldn't use S as that was for stiff.

I went over to Senior Flex Game Improvement clubs after my accident in 2014. With reduced mobility and a much slower swing speed it was the only way that I was likely to be able to play the game again. Learning how to swing and get the best out of the shafts was a slow process, but, not I've found out what I need to do, it makes the game a lot easier. A high lofted driver and a gentle "old man" swing and I've hit more fairways than I've seen in years. The other thing is, you don't hit it long enough to lose the ball any more ;)

A stands for Active flex.

When I first started to play golf the Pro sold clubs singly and always sold beginners A flex clubs . It was 8 years before I found out about shaft flex and it was no wonder that I could hit a 7 iron 180 to 190 yards.

That is actually very true, DCB! What yardage of course do you play most often? I tend to find anything over 400 I play as a par 4 and a half but I really try to get no more than a 4 on the short holes and build my game around shooting par or better on the par 5 holes.

Played links recently and that was superb as the ball rolled for miles ... however, on a parkland track with a lush fairway I'll be looking at 180-200 yds as a good drive. I'm playing 2 shots into the wind to reach my friends first shot. Short game and putting is not too bad, but, lack of swing length and swing speed seriously hamper any real distance through the long to mid clubs in the bag.
