Yesterday I purchased a new motocaddy s1 trolley from american golf.
I did the usual 8 hour first charge as recommended by the manual before first use.
Ran the trolley today over 18 holes and it was fine.
When I came home to charge it the battery and charger got very hot and melted within one hour of being on.

I've emailed motocaddy, but the wife has banned the battery from being charged at home pretty much rendering my new trolley useless!
Has anyone else had a issue like this?
With the trolley I mean not the wife as I'm sure we all have.

my charger melted from my motocaddy the other day. bought a new charger all fine now

Really? Cos last time you said you bought a powacaddy after scrapping the motocaddy .... and then the debacle of not sending the wheels that I paid for as your printer wasn't working!

Anyway car.crash I reckon a quick visit to American Golf would have sorted it quicker than emailing Motocaddy.

I did take the battery and charger back to american golf and the guys were great and swapped both without any fuss.
I'm just worried about using it again if this happens regular and may just back the whole package.

Shame really as the trolley performed great but I'm not prepared to burn the house down over it.

This thread is not a rant by the way guys, I'm just nervous of the charging system in my home.

To be honest I have never heard of it before .... however as with any battery charging system there is always a possibility of failur, most chargers have fail safe in them to deal with it.

Had two motocaddy batteries and chargers and none have "melted" not really heard of anyone else who has

I'm guessing you must have had a faulty one - don't let it put you off a great trolley

Hopefully you use a circuit breaker but I would also charge while its sitting on something fire resistant like a fire blanket

I've had my Motocaddy charger for a few years now and it gets VERY hot. I'm worried now and will keep a close eye on it. I'm not convinced that a trip switch will be necessary as I'm on trip fuses but what do I know.

The product is great but the thought of it catching fire takes the edge off it.
After some googling it appears I'm not alone and others have actually had theirs catch fire.

The trolley is gone, I can't be having it in the house.
American golf were very good about the whole thing but motocaddy didn't respond to my email but I shall give them the benefit of the doubt as it may not have delivered.

I'm now in a pickle as I sold my clicgear to buy the motocaddy so I'm now trolley less.

I did call them today funnily enough before taking the motocaddy back to discuss their chargers and if they have ever encountered such problems.
I'm quite happy with the answers I was given.

I've emailed motocaddy again on the off chance they might help me out with a better price on a safer lithium battery but im not holding my breath on it.

Failing that, gokart.

Quick question - was it a normal battery or a lithium ?

Checked the heat from my charger today and there was no heat at all coming off it as i was charging the battery

Normal lead type.
I'm certainly not alone on this and its by no means restricted to a particular brand either.

The lithiums are definatly the way to go but £500 for a trolley to play once a month means its getting out of hand fast.
