A GOLF course is finally set to welcome players on to its fairways – 10 years after it was constructed.
Torrance Park, which lies between Newarthill and Holytown, is owned by a company run by Rangers chairman David Murray.

Although construction work was completed around a decade ago, the clubhouse wasn't built on cost grounds and the course never opened.
The developers had banked on selling adjacent ground for luxury housing to finance the project.

However, although North Lanarkshire Council was keen for houses to be built, the Scottish Government insisted the land around the golf course must remain greenbelt.

The Government then changed its mind and said houses would be allowed, but no building can begin until the clubhouse is constructed.

The course will open on Saturday, August 1.

Anyone from this area know if this is true??? :D

"Torrance park" will be open for play on Saturday 1st August until the middle or end of October, £15 mid-week or £20 weekend.
Braemar Golf Management will run the golf course on behalf of New Brannock ltd, David Murray & Graham Gillespie. The gentleman running the course will be Danny Welsh, currently working as the Pro at Port Royal driving range, you can contact Danny on 0131 333 4377, just mention my name when you call, he will be able to book a tee time for you.
The course was designed by Sam Torrance, the holes are very tricky, well laid out and will be a fair test for even the best golfers, however, i would say it's a very playable course, with generous fairways, large greens and no two holes the same. This has been a long time coming and we are certainly looking forward to playing there as a member.
Both Sandy(Head Greenkeeper) and Jim(Assistant Greenkeeper) have worked extremly hard in the last few months and have the course looking fantastic. That's only my opinion, you need to play it, it will give any course in the area a run for their money.
Get up and play it, you will love it.

The parent company are looking to see what interest there is and they want to close it in the winter for maintainance and further development. I had a chat today with a mate who is mildly involved and they hope to open all year round in 2011. I guess they want to make it the best in the area and they think that by closing for 6 months that will give them enough time to make an impact.

So it's like Loch Lomond without the loch and the midges then ;)

Sounds good - love the idea of a new course opening close to the homestead. Mulling over memberships in the South Glasgow and surrounding area. Settling for a S.Lanarkshire ticket for now. Will head out to Torrance Park for a sneaky peek soon..

no loch or midges, but it is next to one of Scotland's busiest roads and looks to have a massive pylon in the middle of it... Having a look on google maps, the layout does look very good and tricky. Just wondering what the scenery is going to be like though.

Played with Allan and his friends at Goswick, brilliant course and great company. I'm not the member at Gleneagles but I'm sure we will get a game soon.
I will be playing Letham Grange on Sunday 2nd August, tee off 2.30pm.
Are you playing Andra?
The pylons don't come into play, however, they will be going underground in a few years time.
Mr Murray, must build a clubhouse before he can build houses, apparently, this has been written in to the deal made with the council.
Forget all the crap, if you want to see how good the course is, you need to play and then make your decision.
Did you get a time for Saturday at Newarthill?

Mick, I am running a forum day on 9th August at Letham, your welcome to come. £25 gets you 2 rolls, tea and a round.
I think we are going to have about 20 guys there.

I will be looking to play on Saturday at 10am.
