Where is the most out of the way strange place you've played a golf course. Mine is here -

golf course

The golf course is on the SW corner of the island if you zoom in there. You'll need to zoom out to get a location.
A very obscure little 9 holer where I hired some clubs back in 1994 when we got to land for 3 or 4 hours as part of a 3 day yacht trip in an old Americas Cup yacht. No idea there was a course when I got off the boat, it was just there and had to be played - bonus!
Wish I was there now, at least there's no snow! It would be night-time though! :(

Any really odd courses you've played?

Not a strange course but the most out of the way, has got to be my brothers course on the Shetlands. Whalsay is a small island off the east coast of Shetland and the most northerly golf course in the UK.

Sorry, can't put up a google link as clever Birdieman has. :)

I think this is my strangest...my Grandad lived 500 yrds from it and we still have the house but I aint played it for a while.....some unreal views from it over the Firth of Clyde and the start of the Kyles of Bute but what makes it strange is the fact you play holes 1-12 then 1-5 again then it has a seperate 18th hole!! 13 holes in total, very strange indeed!

Mine was probably the Wynn course. Only because if you don't stay at the Wynn, you'd have no idea that there was a golf course on Las Vegas strip.

I know that I had no idea it was there the first time I went to Vegas x

I couldn't believe you just go in the bar and help yourself. All I did was write what I had on a slip of paper and left it with everyone elses. :) (I had Scrumpy Jack)

Has to be Shiskine on the Isle of Arran. Great wee course with some stunning views and holes and of course the obligatory Robert the Bruce cave. Im surpised he fought anyone - with the amount of caves he hid in!

Robert the Bruce doesnae hide as much as you when it comes to playing away competitions!!! Maybe you need to encounter a spider for inspiration!

You sure you played Shiskine? Were you not tucked up in bed with a hangover, puking on your bed sheets :D!!!

This one - http://www.negolf.lk/

It is 6200 feet above sea level amongst the tea plantations of Sri Lanka.

1st hole approach shot, 165 yards to go and I ask my Tamil caddy for a 7 iron. He shakes his head and gives me a 9 iron. I said I was flattered but needed a bit more club. He shrugged and watched my 7 iron as it was still on the rise as it went over the green into the jungle!

The altitude made a massive difference and from then on, I used the clubs he gave me despite raising my eyebrows at some of the choices!

Lovely course in an awesome setting.

Mine is probably TPMH (The Princess Mary Hospital) course at RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus when I was serving there in the RAF in the 80's. It was built on a spit of land jutting out into the sea.
The "browns" were made from a mixture of oil and sand.
You didn't go looking for your ball if it went in the bushes!!! :D

Ascension Island, I played there in 1990 don't remember much of it other than the ball bouncing wildly of the rocks which were everywhere........... Happy Days though

Great Choice - Played there with my father in law whilst over on Arran on holiday. Not only is the scenery and history incredible but the course (12 holes)is a wee cracker.

Sponge1980,

Thanks very much for doing that :)

Golfmmad.

No bother. My main golfing aim for 2010 is get up to Whalsay for a game. I haven't spoken to anyone who has a bad word to say about the place.
