Most balls lost in a round?

Played a quick fire early morning round. The idea was not to spend more than a minute foraging in the cabbage. Was not really a bright idea as I was lighter by about six balls!!

However that is not the most balls lost by me in one round. When I just started playing golf, I paid a visit to Pyford GC - where 17 holes have water. I think me and my PP ran thru a dozen each on the front nine. We bought another dozen each at the turn, which we promptly lost before the end of the round!! Was a very expensive round.

Anyone on the forum to beat that...

Played with my neighbour and his son last week. The son lost 15 balls during the round. On the 5th hole he hit a decent drive and then put 3 out of bounds with his 2nd, 4th and 6th shots. Walking to the 6th tee he said "Well at least it can't get any worse". By the time he was 7 off the tee on that hole he was verging on a complete breakdown.

Played at Woodhall Spa two weeks ago and went through around 20 balls, lost a couple on the Bracken on the Saturday, but on a windy Sunday on the Hotchkin went through the 14 I had in my bag plus the half dozen I found and a couple that Kraxx passed over. I did make up for it slightly by finding 5 on the 18th.

14 for me, a long time ago, at Braid Hills in Edinburgh. Shot 4 under my handicap the first day, and thought if I went back there, knowing the layout, I'd shoot the lights out of it.

Yeah, right!

How funny. I opened thread to comment only to find that your ball eating course was the same as mine.
Pyrford is a black hole for balls. I lost 8 in one round without going OOB including 3 on the last hole.
I'm sure local dog walkers all have ball retrievers and never buy golf balls

Pyrford sounds like Thorpeness, one bad bounce off the fairway, lost ball, go long over the green, lost ball. We played there for 3 days a couple of weeks ago, first day was very windy and even single figure handicappers were struggling for 30 points. I lost a hatfull but found probably the same amount.....we used to do a sweep for the number of lost balls for 20 players over 3 days, I think it was somewhere between 90 and 100.........

+1 :swing:

I cannot remember the most I have lost, must be loads though. I had a lesson a couple of weeks back and went out afterwards playing 10 holes and promptly lost 7 balls having previously been relatively straight but very short.

I once played a course in asia where there were signs warning you about cobras in the rough, it put most people off looking for balls but I managed to end up considerably up in balls by going in and hunting them down on a day when I was pretty wayward.

On an adventure round in my first few days of my course I lost 16 balls. I was trying to be that long ball hitter with driver off nearly every hole apart from par 3's. Sometimes I'd loose a ball going too long on some holes and we have long whispy grass so it's a goner if you go anywhere near it.

Gladly playing three times a week have taught me where to go and where not to. I can get around with the same ball now. (mostly)

My dear old dad used to be a member at Pyrford and I've played there many times ........................ it absolutely eats golf balls if you're not playing well, particularly when it's windy!
However, has anyone played on a windy day at Monte Mayor!!
It makes Pyrford look like a pitch & putt.
I don't know how many balls I lost there, I can't count that high!

Slime.

I stopped counting the amount i lost up at Pleasington with Qwerty and Bluewolf a few weeks back. It was depressingly comical.

I was hemorrhaging into the clag in all directions. Dont think i found one ball that skipped into even the lightest rough.

guessing maybe 10+ easy

Lost a load at loch Erne recently. Pushed two into the lake off the first tee and it didn't get much better after than.

Never found a freedom in my swing all day. Tried to steer the ball around and it just went from bad to worse.

8 or 9 at a guess :o

Lost a dozen on my first round at Walmersley! All off the tee. My bad shot tends to be topping it, and there are a lot of tee boxes where there is 20-40 yards of thick moorland knee deep rough before you reach a sensible first cut or fairway. Which is a bad shot magnet for me! Especially on a nervy first round when you don't know the course.

So frustrating when you top a ball, see the precise landing spot less than 50 yards away, yet still lose the ball. Actually came away with a net gain on Monday though, so it does get better (lost 2 found 4!).

9 brand new AD333's in last August's hurricane around Silloth. Some extravagantly 'shaped' shots that not even the pros could pull off! !

We called it after 14 holes so not even a full round. Good job they were freebies!
