Most amount of penalty shots in one round?

Just looking for a bit of confirmation that it isn't just me doing this...


What is the most amount of penalty shots you have receieved in one round?

Whilst playing in my third medal the other day, I accumulated 6 penalty shots! Plus the 6 shots that got me into trouble, that explains why I played to 12 over my handicap.

I'm actually quite happy about that almost, shows that if I cut those out, I might almost play to my handicap!

1 x OOB
1 x Lost ball in thick rough,
4 x Water hazards!!!

I racked up a load on my 2nd handicap round a couple of weeks ago...

2x OOB
2x Unplayable lies (1 ball hard against a boundary fence, no stance or swing possible; 1 ball in the middle of a bush)
1x Lost ball
1x Water hazard

And that was all just on the front 9! Penalty-free and about 14 shots better on the back nine though ...

Played Linden Hall witha mate after had had the very heavy rain, course really should not have been open, but none the less, we played, first two off the first tee pull left OOB, couple of balls into bunkers full of water, couldn't find them so dropped another, not sure if they count as penalties though, one ball played over the green into very soft mud, saw where it landed, no idea how far it sunks into the mud, couple into trees.

Basically went through 12 balls that round and netted 124 for the trouble.

Would like to go back and play the course in the dry

Im intrigued about you sig. How did you get a 20 HC without scoring under 100?

I cant get below HC 23 regularly scoring below 100.... ????

The handicap rounds weren't done in a competition! I've only played 3 medals since my handicap, and scored 104, 104, and 108. Really regretting having a 20 handicap to be honest!

My handicap round that got me it had a lucky birdie, and I think 3 or 4 triple or higher rounded down to doubles. Don't get me started on this being a rubbish method for handicaps! Want to swap?

Lost a dozen balls in a round last year and a few other things that earned penalty strokes on the same round, don't really want to go into more detail than that but suffice to say it was a dark dark day (& I don't mean I was playing at night!)

My first ever medal, short par 3 of around 130 yards of which 120 yards is carry over a lake. I walked off with a 23 for that hole alone and will let you lot do the maths.

Not sure of the most penalty shots in a round but my best on a single hole was at the first at Prestwick. Put 3 consecutive balls into the railway station from the middle of the fairway and walked off with an 11 (3-putted, just to rub it in). To compound things, I then put my drive on the 2nd straight into the burn. So that was 4 penalty shots incurred in the first 9 strokes of the day.

On the up-side, my scoring improved thereafter

First tee, First ball into the range, 3 off the tee into the range, 5 off the tee into the ditch. 3 penalty shots.
5th tee, sliced drive OOB, 1 penalty shot.
6th tee, first shot in the water, second shot OOB, third on the green. 2 penalty strokes.
8th tee, first ball OOB, 1 penalty shot
10th tee, first ball OOB, second ball in the ditch, 2 penalty shots.
11th tee, first ball lost in the hedge, 1 penalty shot.
12 tee, drive into the water, 1 penalty stot.
15th tee, first into the water AGAIN! 1 penalty shot.
16th tee, drove the green on a short par 4, 1 putt for eagle!

So 12 penalty shots and an eagle in one round! Silly bloody game this is!

Picked clubs off buggy, put them in the boot of the car, drove myself home in complete silence, disgusted with myself.

Medal round too. I've been in poor form haha! Scores in brackets are from the best of my memory - but 61 sounds about right. (EDIT - plus my par from the par 3 6th - 64!!) Horrendous.

My best was playing Heaton Park, had no penalty shots after 10 holes then managed two out of bounds in a ravine on the 11th for a total of 5 out of bounds on the last 8 holes. Ruined what was a superb round up to that point.

Where do I start? I must have at least a dozen per round (and a round to me is 9 holes) I'm not scoring really but if I did I'd be hard to beat in the roll of shame. Having said that I got a par today which cheered me up *(on one hole that is)
