I was kindly invited up to Morecambe for a round on Good Friday hosted by splashtryagain from the forum.

Arrived there before anything was open as we had an early start but noticed they had a fitting lab aswell as the pro shop which I'm reliably informed is very good.

Met up with splash and headed for the first tee.

This is not, and I emphasis the not, a "bombers paradise"! Par 67, no par 5's McKenzie course. Stood on the first tee you would know it's a McKenzie if you didn't beforehand! Bunkers cross the fairway in exactly the right (or wrong?) place with a green tilting back to front and bunkers everywhere.

It was quite a change from my course which is only a few years old so pretty open with the immature trees etc and you could comfortably leave the driver at home for this one.

The course is in absolutely top condition, looks great and doesn't disappoint. Some of the truest greens I've putted on for a long while.

As I said there are no par 5's and the holes are pretty relentless in demanding accuracy of both the tee and with the approach shots as the greens are surrounded by bunkers, run offs, OOB and the greens themselves are very undulating.

There are a good set of par 3's on this course which I always like (even though I butchered most of them).

Definitely a course you would expect to play better second (and subsequent) time round due to the number of blind shots and knowing where to hit the approaches and, possibly more importantly here, where not to. If you get out of position off the tee or round the green you're struggling from the off.

Great clubhouse with veranda overlooking the course for a cold pint after the round and a very well stocked and friendly pro shop who were kind enough to let me on the practice green with one of their putters.

Really is a great course and facilities with the pro shop, fitting lab and clubhouse.

Splash used local knowledge well and comfortably took the better of a very enjoyable round. Some going to maintain a 6 handicap round that place!

Would heartily recommend the course for a game if you're ever up that way.

Thanks for the review nwj! Really enjoyed the round and you're welcome up whenever you want! Course is really playing well and in great condition, the greens should be even better by may brammalmac. If you want any advice just pm me. Oh the foods excellent and I've never heard of a society that didn't enjoy the day. Who knows you may get a calm day like jocko! Doubt it though.....

Hi Splash!

I am in the Morecambe area myself and I am a member at Lancaster GC.

Fancy a round locally at some point? I have just got the bug back after 3 years break and am currently hitting rounds at about 90 so not the greatest but trying nonetheless!

Cheers Matt
