In my round today I...Hit 3 FIR, 2 GIR and generally hit the ball a bit naff.
In my round today I...demonstrated my new short game works and had just 24 putts.
In my round today I...shot 78 gross for 36 points.

Go figure :confused:

Welcome to the buffer club :thup:

I too found myself there today with a gross 81.

good scoring from those stats Hawkeye, means you close the gap by 0.1 today lol

Think I hit 4 FIR and 7 GIR and my short game was patchy at best and horrific at worst!

Some issues to deal with

FIR = 9 out of 12
GIR = 9 of 18
Putts = 38 including 5 x 3 putts
1 birdie

Not sure what MPA is or how to position this. Ball striking excellent. I wasn't trying to "lose the shorties" but just seemed to keep leaving myself two and three footers both short and long. Could have had a competitive score and a cut apart from the putter.

Pretty fed up

Chipping and putting is where you make/keep your score, but how many people practice these as much as they pound balls down the range. Last week in the medal I missed 9 greens and got up and down once and gained 0.1. Today I missed 7 greens but only failed to get up and down once and should have a 0.2 cut coming.

Practice the short game if you want to reduce your handicap.

Ask a silly question. In your opinion, why did your course CSS move up?

I have no idea today. Perfect conditions, plenty of run on fairways, receptive greens that were putting well. The rough is starting to be more of a penalty but isn't brutal yet so nothing too severe. So far this year CSS has gone up something like 5 times out of 7 comps off the whites, once to RO. A couple of those can be explained by the weather but not all of them and certainly not today. A lot of the young trees are now getting quite big and becomming more of an issue and they have removed a lot of the stakes so no drops which must make a bit of difference but not that much I wouldn't have thought. It was a bit of a surprise to see it go up.

It's all I have practiced so far this year pretty much. After my shocking 39 putts the other week I've been working on that too so it's nice to see it paying off. I'd best work a bit on my long game now though :D

I think I have said this before.

Sometimes you are so out of position that it is impossible to get your ball on the green in regulation.However, if you have a short game that you can rely on you can then put your ball into a position where you feel confident that you can get up and down.

When I could play decent golf it always amazed me how I could go out and play great one day and rubbish the next and there would be little difference in the scores. I used to hate dropping shots to par so perhaps that had something to do with it.
