2 Days ago 5 British Soldiers completed an 1100 mile unsupported walk across Antarctica, it took 66 days and they faced the most extreme conditions with temperatures reaching -50c at times.

6 set off, but unfortunately one of the guys had to drop out at the South Pole on medical advice.

It's been fantastc following them on internet etc and it's an incredible achievement.

They are now 5 out of the 11 people who have done this, 12 have walked on the moon.

Anyone interested in their journey or reading their blogs, log on to www.spear17.org

As an extra, while they wait to fly out of Antarctica on 26th they entered the Antarctica Marathon which took place yesterday and one of them finished 4th

That is awesome, didn't even hear about this, pity the main stream news is so full of non-stories and political agendas recently.

Going to have a read about it now, this is the kind of thing that would make a cracking documentary.

Really? All you'd have is men walking/skiing on snow with some boil in a bag cooking and sleeping for 66 days. Cant imagine a great deal of chat, just exhaustion. Very impressive feat of endurance but not convinced it'd make great tv viewing......Eastenders however..........I'll get my coat!:o

You great big soddin twazzock, why did you not tell us about this when they flippin started. Ave spent the last six months wasting away watching soddin Emmerdale, Corrie and crossroads and I could of been following this.

Phil sort this man out with an infraction, unless he promises to inform us of similar future events.

Really good guys mate, all of them are from my previous Unit and it's sister Unit.
One of the guys taking part has a good claim to fame, he was the first live birth from a frozen human embryo in the UK, obviously has ice in his genes :)

Al bet he never had his leg pulled when that came out. 😂

Guys landed back in UK today and will be on The One Show, 7pm tomorrow night.

Brilliant!

Saw a piece on them at the start of their trek then totally forgot. 1100 miles in those conditions is unbelievable!

All good guys as well, looking forward to meeting up with them when they visit Newcastle.
