3pm today and the final of the club's Mixed Greensomes Knockout. Myself and HID have done really well to make the final but now we're there I really want to win this more than I've ever really wanted to win anything at golf!

For a change we'll be receiving a couple of shots - on paper it should be a tight match.

First time I've ever had a referee along for the ride too!

We lost- gutted Started great and 1 under gross and 3 up after 4 holes to mumblings of bandit (outright actually!). They birdied the 5th to get one back and we messed up 6. Shared the 7th then lost 8, 9 10 and 12 which we played poorly which is frustrating. Rallied and so close to winning the 13th and then won 14. Halved 15 and hoped to half 16 so we went down 17 which was a shot hole (they gave us 2) but we lost it - hit the pin and bounced out...very close. In fact the rub of the green really wasn't with us - or rather it was with them.

We were 10 over gross at the end which is ok but we can do so much better and it's disappointing to feel we lost it rather than they won it. I missed too many "could get but could miss" putts and David missed too many greens from the middle of the fairway. So we share the blame!

Gutted...so wanted to win. Next year!

As an aside - encountered another low handicap female (9) who seldom uses an iron apart from chipping. Can't figure it when I'm hitting a 6, 7 or 8 and she has a rescue in her hand (who knows what loft)...seems weirdly common!

No! Funny enough we were just talking about it as the referee said it was gamesmanship although it was all quite jovial. I just wish he had to repeat that statement on the 14th hole as we trounced them!
