After my post the other day about being on the verge of giving up i think it's getting closer. Went out today to make up the numbers and started 7,6,5,7,7 and lost 3 baws in amongst that rubbish to say i was depressed is an understatment, just as well i've got the Samaritans on speed dial. :).
I went out with a not a care in the world attitude as it was a lovely day up here and that attitude carried on for full 18 holes my mates were expecting helicopter golf but no not one club thrown in anger, god knows how.

After next week in an open i've payed for thats it till my holiday then will look at it after that, the enjoyments gone for me know, but hey i never know i might shot the lights out next saturday.

Hi Steve

Its only golf mate. I firmly believe that everyone has a bad season every now and then. A friend of mine off 3 had one last year. He hardly broke 80 (for him thats bad!!) and now this year he's playing out of his skin. Just relax , enjoy the company and try and make a few pars here and there.

Stick with it !! good luck

come on now you play of 10. you know its in there dont give up. us higher handicappers can only dream of getting a 10 handicap. look at tiger at the players, he is not at his best by miles. how does he sort it BY playing.

I know what your saying bigslice,i'm off 11 now ,sorry haven't updated my profile, last season i was of 9 i've played 16 comps and went up .1 everytime i've had lessons ,i practise i just don't enjoy it anymore, its meant to be enjoyable not a chore every week.

I know what your saying about Tiger but he's getting millions of bucks for playing so not really a comparison mate.

Steve when the desire for a sport goes its very hard to get the motivation back.......
What can give it a new lease of life is a good break....Your situation reminds me of the last few seasons i had playing football....Training i used to live for suddenly became a real chore for me....I started loosing the desire to play the game and to be true i got a bad injury that kept me out for the best part of 8 months....When i eventually got the all clear to go back training it was like a new lease of life for me and everything started going right again.....
I know that its not the exact situation that your in but maybe all you need is to take a break and rediscover your passion for the game again....Take a look at it from outrside the box for a change and maybe delete all the technical jargon about your lessons and so on and think back to why you took the game up....Hang up the competitive clubs for a few months and just take a good break.......
You'll rediscover your passion again for it im sure ;)

i meant about tiger that he is playing carp but he knows its in there and his game will come back. take a break from golf get on with life. and i bet in a couple of weeks you will be itching to go golfing. i wish i hadnt stopped playing for 15 years. but glad im back at it as it IS addictive.

So all the advice to have a couple of weeks off and come back keen was taken on board then ??

I work shifts so don't get many Saturdays off, so thought would give it ago to make the numbers up ,it was just a bounce game ,enjoyed the banter but the golf was a chore.

That sounds familiar... I'll look forward to next year! :)

I don't believe in having a break, when you are playing badly then (in my opinion) that is the best time to find a swing that works. What can be worse than going back to basics if what you currently have doesn't work... it can't get any worse can it?

Hi Steve, it was a lovely day here as well,I played today, started off 4,4, 3d hole ripped a drive, middle of fairway.5 iron to green, punched it right, pin high off the green, took me 4 to get down, from thereon in my game just went from bad to worse, feel just like you, wanting to pack it all in, came off with a 93,less 10, 83. i will be back on tuesday to try and sort it out,And i don't expect anything else from you mate,Stick with it,play through it,you know i am right.Bill
