As the title suggests there are strong rumours in the States that the parent company SRI will be withdrawing Cleveland from everything but wedges and focussing on promoting Srixon as their brand for woods, hybrids and irons as well as balls.

Understandable in view of Cleveland's very small share of those markets but still a shame as they have produced some good kit.

But they make some very very good kit woods and irons wise that seems a lot more in the public domain than srixon as a brand.

I think the current set up works well, Cleveland for clubs, srixon for balls.

This rumour has been around for quite a while.

Btw, surely the fact that Srixon/Cleveland are one and the same means that they will continue to make good clubs ... It'll just have another name on them? They won't suddenly forget how to make clubs.

The kit may be the same but branding wise it seems odd. People associate Cleveland with clubs and not so much Srixon (though I do know that Srixon make clubs). It would be just as odd for Cleveland to be used for ball branding. Maybe Srixon are a bigger club brand abroad

Seems an odd one to me, as mentioned I think Srixon is mainly thought of as a ball brand in the UK.

Cleaveland make some cracking clubs, I would be disappointed to see this being the case, if the clubs are re-branded as Srixon they would need to be promoted and stocked in many more places than they are currently.

It is a strange one. Here in the states I do not really see Srixon clubs in the shops, so it is not like they hold any kind of market share over here making them wanting to drop Cleveland.

the only thing I can think is that they want to rebrand clubs and basically re launch Cleveland under a new name. How many people think of Cleveland 1st, when looking for new clubs? Maybe they are thinking about tarting it up with a new name and trying to start off with a new target market.

Not sure I see the problem here. Cleveland were always known for their wedges and started that way. The clubs they produced have been good and I enjoyed my iron testing at the FoA with GM. I think if anything it's the Srixon name that has fallen behind and I see this as a way of pushing this (along with their balls) and letting Cleveland get back to basics and focusing on nothing but world class wedges

Apparently there are only two markets of any size for the manufacturers,; U.S.A. & Japan.

As I understand it Cleveland have only a 1% market share for woods & 1.6% for irons. Therefore, Srixon are considered a better bet for promotion as a brand due to their greater market share in Japan.

Srixon, and their clubs including the XX10 brand, are huge in japan (2nd largest golf market in the world).

Cleveland clubs (excluding wedges) are tiny in the marketplace. Cleveland Wedges are 2nd in the marketplace, and Srixon are number two ball manufacturer. So leveraging the Cleveland name to be specifically short game and wedges is not particularly mad, and trying to leverage the Srixon name, to the expense of the Cleveland name, in the other clubs is hardly likely to cause a huge drop in sales.
