I'm selling my old iPhone 3GS on ebay right now. I've checked what kind of money they are going for and it's about £150.

I got an e-mail last night from someone offering me £380 !!!! Obviously way over the odds.

I've checked my listing to make sure it's ok and I haven't put any duff info. And all looks fine. I can only assume they think it's a 4 or 4S even though it clearly says 3GS

Do you

A) Bite their hand off and take the £380 and run ? Their problem, they should know what they are bidding for !

B) Inform them they may have offered a bit to much and ask them to double check what they are buying ? Might be a genuine mistake and don't want to rip someone off.

Are you sure that they are not trying to rip you off, if the offer is too good to be true, then is it true?

If not, it's B for me too

Are they buying it from Malawi, and sending it to their brother in Poland as a gift?

It is a rip off, and you will end up with no money, and no phone.

Sounds a scam for sure. Check their feedback and if it looks genuine then B) and if not then ignore it and block the buyer...

I actually wrote back to them last night and told them I thought they had offered too much and asked them to double check what they are bidding for.

I did check their profile and they look genuine. Only a handful of trades but all positive.

I had swapped a few mails about the phone, condition etc etc, so they seem like a genuine interested buyer.

I'll only deal through e-bay for the protection but something feels a little odd about this. Could be a genuine error though.

I would tell them to make the bid on the auction. If they bid £380, it's almost certain that nobody will bid any higher than that.

Yeah I had this couple of years back. I was selling a psp and some guy emailed offering me a silly price, then followed by a fake paypal letter asking me to input my paypal details????

I notified paypal and they confirmed it was a Nigerian based scam. The lady from paypal then talked me through changing my ebay settings so only UK buyers could bid.

yup get them to bid that as their highest maximum, and tell them that will definitely win it.

then get your mate to bid 350 just as time runs out, and VwaLa they win the phone for less than the highest maximum and you get your dollar.

(this is shadow bidding and its frown upon(illegal perhaps)

I told them last night to put a bid in for that amount if they still want it and told them I'd just ship to UK and would only deal via e-bay.

According to their account they are in Scotland.

Funiliy enough I haven't seen a bid yet or any reply to my mails.

definately a scam because no one in scotland has that kind of money to spare.......and they certainly ain't going to spend more than what it's worth.

i'm surprised he hasn't offered you a deep fried mars bar and a bottle of irn bru for it :)
