I'm playing at Moortown on Thursday in their Open, is anyone else playing in it?

I know a few of the NW boys like it their and its a firm favourite of mine, it's great course, I've been looking over my strokesaver from last year when I was only a few inches from my first eagle on the 1st, got to be pleased with a birdie start though :smirk:

an Open on a Thursday?

Why not, I've played in Opens at clubs up and down the country on most days of the week! This is a 4BBB Gents Open and is always fully booked very quickly. £35 to play Moortown with the extra chance of winning something, its a no brainer :smirk:

Not uncommon on the seniors circuit

Although, I am now looking for those 'over 55's' cheap open comps :smirk:

Good day out , get warm up by the range 1st , I played in the same open a few years ago with Silver of HDIDO , good day out mate and dont let the 1st hole fool you because its a tough track and there is a halfway house just before you play an up hill par 3 , I did not play too well that day as its a course you need to know but i enjoyed it all the same and like to do it again sometime

Yep, I am playing in it. 14.20 tee time.

Looking forward to it, hope it's in better condition than when I played it in May.

All I got to hope is my partner has a blinder as last time he visited every fairway that he wasn't supposed to be on.

I should to be back in (hopefully) before you go out so hope to catch up for a quick chin wag.

Are you stopping up the night before or in for an early start Thursday?

Early start, about 06.30hrs. 09.40 tee-time so I will want to be their at least an hour before to settle and get on the range, hopefully I'll be off before you tee off so should bump into you! Good luck if not :smirk:

My one and only hole in one was on the 10th there. So when you are stood on the tee, remember, it's an easy hole. ;)

Just arrived, 2.25hrs in drizzle & spray and about 40 miles of 50mph restrictions which did my head in!

Looking forward to the 10th;-)

That poxy M1.
I went down to Woburn yesterday courtesy of powerbug in Travis Perkins seniors pro am (thanks again btathome) so know exactly what you mean.

Well bit of a disappointing day out, weather better than expected tho so that was a bonus.

Went into proshop checked in asked for some balls for the range, the pro told me they was complimentary so walked down to the practise ground. Bucket was Empty so you had to go into no mans land and collect your own with an empty basket whilst people are trying not to use you as target practise .

Got to the the putting green to find it had more bumps than a teenagers crater face, maintenance had been done within the last 2 weeks so greens putted slow and bumpy

Anyroad shot 83 with several missed puts, betterball 34 points as my partner decided not to contribute too much. 44 off 3/4 won and on those greens I thought it was a very good score.

We started in very wet/damp conditions and only got a shower late in the round on the 16th. I started off the tee really well but my partner didn't really get going into it was a bit too late, I then stared to block my tee shots out to the right after the turn finding the short tight heather that lined the fairways which was a pig to get out of! Some of the greens showed signs of the tining more than others and were very bumpy but the practice area did not represent the course greens, the course was much faster.

We played with 2 old boys from Ripon who came out the traps flying, I was playing bogey golf and getting the 2 points on the card as best I could but they were dovetailing excellent and parring many on the front only to fade away a bit after the turn, like me :(

Looking back on last years card both the 11th and the 13th had me over for blobs but they were only 2 of the 3 blobs I had on the day, the 5th being the other, although that was better than last year so I'll take the positives and I got a couple of nice pars on the 8th and 14th for a total of 33 points and we split the contribution getting on the card 9 times each.

I found it played a bit long although we were off the yellows, my drives felt good, more so on the front 9 and the last 4 holes but I felt I was still reaching for my 4 iron or wood at times to take on the green as so many seemed uphill and into the wind, as such I opted to play short and look to chip close but I found my fair share of bunkers, and although I got out of all of them very well, they took that additional shot off me. I made a couple of poor decisions, especially on that short dogleg left (5th), I took the corner on with my 3 off the tee and clipped the top of the big tree and never recovered.

Pyramid of balls on the practice range was a nice touch, obviously with a full course they didn't go out and replenish them for the late starters which was poor reading Glynn's post.

Overall I still I enjoyed my day, the course looked very different in some places where they have taken down many tree's, maybe it was that which gave it a more open look that made me open the shoulders a bit more and start to block some tee shots, I'm not sure, but that M1 is a pain in the butt

Looking at the possibility of a little mini tour up there next month, heard nothing but good things about Moortown, Alwoodley, Sand Moor etc. Possibly Lindrick either on the way up or down as well.
