Not what it first may have seemed.

I spoke to a pro the pther day who went to a winter demo day with Yonex at which Monty attended.

Apparently he uses Yonex heads but has the shafts he used when with Callaway fitted to his clubs as he didn't get on with the shafts in the Yonex clubs.

Just found it interesting, wondered if it is true and if anybody knows of anything similar like the rumour that Woods' blades aren't in fact Nike but re-dressed Mizzy's.

I think if I was the CEO of Yonex I would be telling him to put Yonex shafts in as he couldn't be any chuffing worse than he is now.

I would try anything if I were Monty at the moment. I do feel for him as I have always been a fan. There comes a time for any sportsman when the bell tolls and it is time to jack. Now is the time for Colin I think. I would rather go out with some pride rather than blunder on as an also-ran. I think if he had won a major in his time he would be less inclined to cling on.

I really dont care if Monty plays on or not. Makes no difference. I think alot of these guys love the attension and the fame. Look at Calc a few years ago he was finished but he has bounced back again and is up there most week's.
What would Monty do if he stopped playing? Can you imagine Monty commentating. It would take him forever to get anything out, all he says is , and, and, and, and watch the next time he's interviewed, he's hard to listen to

med, so do you think the big man will have to win a comp this year for faldo to pick him, i think faldo will pick him as long as the so called better players can make it on there own merit.

don't think he will have to win something to get in.

The best men for the job should get in the team in my eyes and Monty isn't anywhere near good enough when you look at the strength in depth there is with regard to European players.

To early at this stage to name names but for me it would be the qualifiers on points followed by captains picks based on the 1st on form - the 1 who just missed out and the 2nd as somebody who is a real team player with a good record and a good influence in the team.

In my eyes it is a serious matter and there is no room for sentiment when it comes to professional sport. I like Monty but if his game isn't up to it why pick him? Yes he has a record as a great matchplay golfer but he is playing so badly that it would be too big a gamble in my eyes.

If I was forced to name picks it would be this. My 1st pick would be Darren Clarke, I feel that he would bring his A-game to the party and his influence within the team is huge. Him and Westwood make a formidable pairing. My second, no idea yet as I cannot forsee who may just miss out on an automatic spot.

Why choose a has-been like Monty 2008 over somebody who may have just missed out on qualification?

MED,i can agree with most of what you are saying but there is no contest between monty and darren, its monty all the way and i think faldo would see it that way, anyway lets just hope the big man find,s some form, the yanks would hate to play him.
