I really don't get the amount of vitriol on this board for a truly great British golfer.

He is one of them people that divides opinion, some people love him and some people can't stand him.

I think he will find the seniors tour harder than he thinks.

Completly agree. A really good ambassador for the European tour for years. I thought it was a real shame he never won a major.

As a golfer he's fine but he's a shocking commentator.
Good luck to him on the senior tour and I hope it finishes his on camera career.

It might have something to do with Montys general attitude.........

.........or his nationality.

I have met him a few times off the golf course and he is a genuine nice guy with a wide range of sporting interests.

He is ultra competitive on the golf course which some see as a poor attitude.

Why would it have anything to do with his nationality?

We had this debate a few weeks ago and I said then the top American tour players tanned Colin's backside on the PGA tour and in the majors so why would he think they couldn't do it in the seniors, the likes of LANGER andWATSONstill give the young bucks a run for their money, and the question is is COLIN prepared to put the hours in to keep his game on top form to compete.

Because it's always the same few that bring up nationality on here. This being one of them.

Monty divides opinion due to his sometimes surly attitude as has been said. But he was still one of the best golfers out there to never win a major. 8 order of merit titles at a time when the European Tour was actually quite good speaks volumes.

To those saying he is going to find the seniors harder than he thinks... Do you know how hard he thinks it's going to be?

Having witnessed the seniors guys up close on many occasions on the bag for my father-in-law (De Vere at Mottram being the most recent) these guys can still play, and not just play a bit. Langer has an un-real short game still.

This is getting a bit tedious, and its the same few posters everytime.
I'am, have always been, and always will be, a big fan of Monty, and guess what i'am English.
Grow up will you, and keep your own poorly diguised prejudices to your self.
People have the right not to like someone( Lee Westwood anyone? ) without there being a nationalist agenda.
I too have met Monty and i'am quite sure he would of told you in no uncertain terms what he thought about your opening sentance.

I'm not really a Monty fan but I don't get how you can say the Americans tanned his backside.
Fair enough he didn't win a Major, but he still had a good record.

Colin Montgomerie is one of the greatest golfers ever to come from our shores. No one can deny that fact. He dominated the tour for years, won championships left right and center. He always played his skin off in the Ryder cup. The man is unjustly maligned because he was a winner, he had the desire and single minded attitude to win. You have to have this. Pro golf is dog eat dog and there is no room on the course for players that do not want to win. No one ever remembers second, no one wants to be second.
There are not many commentators who have more inside knowledge of the professional game, Nick Faldo excepted. So he went off at a few cameramen and spectators. He was in the zone and trying to win. This doesn't mean he is a bad person. The man is a gentleman, consummate professional and winner. We should have more respect for his achievements in my opinion...........and breath!! Lol.

Where has this come from? Who says he thinks it will be any different? Could it maybe just be that he wants to get back out playing and the seniors tour is still competitive whilst not being up against these 300+ yard drivers??
