Re: Monty & Irish Open

Play suspended due to wind.....call that bloody wind?!!
Mild zephyr that!Wind? these buggers don't know they are born!Good to hear Wayne Riley slating them for the suspension,he is claiming it is playeable,he stood with a windometer and the gusts where whippng up to 16mph.....bunch of poofs!

Re: Monty & Irish Open

KeefG , watch it online . There was a thread on here some time back that had an excellent link.....i'm watching it but it comes up in media player and as my right click mouse button doesn't work , i can't get the link address :(

Actually ,put this into your browser.....it should bring the golf up . mms--87.255.34.59-thisisgolf_tv=tig_live

Re: Monty & Irish Open

Exactly my thoughts, we were out in it today 50 miles up the coast, the ball was shaking a lot and a couple of times had to be replaced but nothing that spoiled the game, it just made it more challenging.

Re: Monty & Irish Open

Watched it on the red button on sky. Shame Lowry bogied the last but he looks a fine talent (chunky but talented). I think if the conditions remain similar to the rest of the week Lowry has a good shout. I think Monty is too far back. Dougherty might be in with a shout.

Re: Monty & Irish Open

Much as a would love Lowry to win I feel Edfors or Rock will win it, their pro experience should be too much for Lowry.
Lowry will be a good Walker Cup player in September.

Re: Monty & Irish Open

Pfffft....bunch of pussies!!

That wasnt wind....wind is what me & vig played in a couple of weeks ago!!

In all seriousness though, I do really believe it was pathetic to bring them off, nothing short of gale force winds should ever stop a golf tournament. ever.

Lightning yes. Snow yes. Bad light yes. Wind.....no no no!!!

Re: Monty & Irish Open

Im playing Ardglass again tomorrow and if the course is in anyway near its usual conditions, itll be at least as bad as shown today on the telly. Looking forward to it already!

Re: Monty & Irish Open

I have to admit, of all the weather conditions we have, I detest playing in strong winds the most.

I dont mind it absolutely lashing down with rain or snow or anything, I just detets wind, yet I do it just for the pure hell of getting a game in, and I see it as more of a challenge. Admittedly the wind normally wins but there you go!

These pro's are too soft these days!

Re: Monty & Irish Open

I wonder if the spectators are taken in to the equation on days like yesterday ? I saw some footage of a bunch of onlookers with umbrellas at 90* to the wind just battling to stay upright . Maybe that was a considration too ?

Re: Monty & Irish Open

Its not up to the players to suspend play due to adverse weather!!!

The referees or tournament committee do it.

The players can give their opinion but the descision isn't theirs - re Sandy at the Open last year.

There's been an awful lot of Pro-bashing going on recently, give them a break. Especially on this one. If a Pro was doing well he wouldn't want to come off no matter how bad the weather.

Re: Monty & Irish Open

I spend 4 days at the Irish Open this week and let me add my penny's worth.
I wouldn't like to have played in those conditions. Umberella's were useless Thursday and Friday had both wind and rain. We started to watch the golf at the 9th on Saturday and the pin on the green was bending in 2. It wasn't enjoyable. We arrived on Sunday morning and SSP was on the putting green, there's not alot to him, good job he had heavy shoes on or he'd of ended up in Dublin. They held the start off up for 2 hours which was spot on. We could see the clouds clearing.
With 3 groups left on the course the heavens opened again, it chucked it down. The pro's had to play on and what a final last few holes it was.
Well done the commitee for getting it right.
