Monty has missed out on a Masters invitation (as expected) but 3 players ranked lower than him have been invited - which has left him fuming. China's Liang Wen-Chong, Thailand's Prayad Marksaeng and Indian Jeev Milkha Singh have been asked to attend - so that the TV rights in their respective countries will be worth more. Surely this devalues the whole idea of the Masters? I know it's an "invitational" but which other major would let you play just to make more money from TV companies??

It's their competition, they can invite who they like I suppose. It will raise the profile of golf in the respective countries.

As for Monty, well he knew what he had to do and failed dismally, bitching about the invites is just sour grapes.

Jeev Milkha Singh is very deserving of his place at the masters. He has played some great golf this year and he should be there. Much more so than the spent force that is Montgomerie.

I can sort of agree with the other 2 but money is what makes the world go round.

I really think that Monty should pack it in as a whole. He had a chance to get their, made an absolute pigs-ear of it and as Stevelockie says it is just nothing but sour grapes on Monty's behalf, but then I expected him to bitch & moan if he didnt get there.

Its a shame as in the whole scheme of things I like Monty and yes, he is a spent force in my eyes but it is better to be a spent force than to have never been a force at all.

I've just read the BBC report and I think it's a disgrace. They should never use verbs in place of nouns. 'Masters Invitations' sound a lot better.

Neither here nor there really. I can't ever remember seeing Monty play at Augusta on tv anyway because they concentrate on the players in contention, Augusta's not been a happy hunting ground for Monty down the years.
The big pudding will not be missed.
Not at all surprised he's whingeing though, if you were awarded birdies for whingeing Monty would be 45 under par!

to be honest I'm not sure about the other two, but regardless of current world ranking I would expect Jeev Milkha Singh to do better than Monty would have.

I reckon that with the game JMS has at the moment he would make a very good each way bet for the masters.

After some close calls wouldn't it be funny if he found the ability to kill it and close out a win at one of the big ones.

I'm having an ayrton e/w for sure.

When will Monty learn that just because someone asks you a question it doesnt mean you have to give the answer.

He has made himself look petty and childish, all a bit sad really.

How many of you Monty haters on here whoop and dance, and shout "Go Monty" during the Ryder Cup where he performs wonders in his Yank bashing sessions????

I totally agree with he failed to qualify so he shouldnt be afforded a spot at the masters but some of the aggro towards the Ryder Cup stalwart is a bit OTT in my opinion.

I don't think any of the comments made make us Monty haters. I like the big man, but he has been out of order with these comments

Nope, I dont reckon that any of us here are monty haters, we just aren't so staunchly fond of him that we are blinkered about what is going on with him at the moment.

Monty is past it, he aint ever going to win a major, and I doubt that without a very, very generous captains pick that he will be at Valhalla, get over it.

I think Monty has a point as it happens every year.

It is sour grapes cause he is not there. I would have more respect if he had voiced his complaints in the years he had qualified when others have missed out because of these invites.

Its just plain sour grapes. I think Monty would be better placed trying to improve his form so that he qualifies for the Ryder cup team or at least shows signs of a game.

As it stands, I can't imagine Faldo is going to give Monty a captains pick. Its just too much of a risk regardless of his amazing record and past performances.

If the Masters was based on world rankings then fine. But it’s not, is it Monty old chap. So, do you warrant an invitation………….Nnnnnnnno.

So as they say here in Scotland “the baw’s burst”.

I think Monty has had his day,but he is probably worth one more go at the Ryder cup.I think his experience could be vital to some of the newer player.

As far as the organisers are concerned it is all about the green jacket, the Masters names and logo and with the thriving markets in India and the Far East it is an understandable marketing strategy.

Clearly Monty's game is in free fall right now as his efforts to qualify by right showed. I wouldn't have expected anything less than the outburst from Monty although I'm not sure about it being sour grapes but more a knee jerk reaction from wounded pride.

I think Monty has done a huge amount in recent years to help make the European tour so large and successful and has been an integral part of Ryder cup memories. Sadly though he is in the autumn of his career and it is sad to see him struggle. Personally I'd like to see him let go gracefully and maybe enjoy his off course activities and married life and come back hungrier than ever when he hits 50

It’s a shame, I wish these sporting heroes, and idols would know when to hang up their boot/sticks gracefully. People like Monty deserve to go out on a high but the masters would have been to stiffer challenge for him.

I was referring to L.Dallalyo about the hanging up the boots.
