Not many will be able to answer this if the clubs I've been a member of are the same playing/entry criteria!

You can only usually enter a club championship if you are a 9 handicapper or lower, as such the field is usually quite small. I can remember at my last club only 30-ish entered and with it being 36 holes they closed the course on a Saturday for the main part of the day!!

So, there's not a answer for me as its inapplicable :smirk:

2nd for me. If I don't win if soon I never will. Not when we have three plus golfers that all play for the county team.

Finished 3rd a couple of years ago. Would have finished 2nd without the air shot in the second round :o

We don't have a lot of low guys though, maybe 4 or 5 cat 1's, and in truth probably less than 10 that have a chance of winning the thing.

Have come 5th gross overall when I played off 12

Last couple years have come 7th

Have come 2nd twice in the HC one - beaten on count back both times

Came 3rd two years running behind the same 2 guys who werea good 4-5 shots better than me handicap-wise.
I haven't played in one at Aylesbury Park for 2 reasons...
1. Its played at weekends and its difficult when I have lots of work at weekends.
2. Its been shared by the same 2 guys for the last X number of years as they're both off 1.

In reality I, and almost all others, have very little, if any, chance of winning so it becomes just another weekend qualifier....and I don't play weekends.

managed 3rd place after the first 18 one time - only to blow out in the second round! A net 66 round 1 and I'm not going to mention round 2. 36 holes in one day is something I'll leave to the youngsters!

As a club member its 33rd gross, 2nd nett by a shot off 13 handicap.

Not bad as I had just been cut from 14 to 13 just days before. Would have won on count back if off 14.

I did win my driving range's one by 6 shots gross, I was rules out of the nett due to winning by so much :) At least that meant two people got prizes :)

Last 8 of matchplay at both my clubs. Never going to win, handicaps down to plus four at both places and some still handy ex county golfers who are just a little bit too good for me

Managed a 4th gross and winner nett quote a few years back now playing off 10.
Even managed an air shot on the 1st in the pm round  but held it together for a +5.

nett?...handicap?... the man said 'Club' Championship!

we have 18 holes, cut for top 32 and ties, then top 16 over 36 holes qualify for knockout stages.

played in it 3 years now at my current club. made it through to the 2nd round each time. only made it to the last 16 once. had a great couple of qualifying rounds (for me) 73, 74 in testing conditions to qualify 5th - only to draw one of the guys who finished above me thanks to random draw! got hammered 5&4 despite being only 1 down at the turn - ah well...

4th (net) once, just after I had started playing and the first year I had entered. I was playing off 26 so a personal best 88 gross gave me net 62 in the first round and a 5 or 6 shot overnight lead. Cue LOTS of comments on banditry, most in fun but a few that were actually meant, which wasn't terribly pleasant.

Sadly there was a very good reason why the handicap was 26 and day 2 started with a 7 on a par 3 and went on from there ... I would have been in the prizes at least had my playing partner not searched so diligently for my ball in the deep deep clag on the 17th and found it, lying virtually unplayable. Or indeed if I hadn't been quite so new to the game, and had had the sense to pick the thing up, take my medicine, and walk back to the tee :D.
