After about a month of not even touching a club, I played Wickham Park yesterday with "Midnight" and a mate of his. Arrived a bit later than planned, so no time to hit the range or even take some practice putts. (If I had had time to practice and check the greens I wonder if I would have holed the monster 25-footer on the first to save par?!)

Anyway, a few duffs, to be expected really, but all in all the best driving I've ever done - mostly straight and a couple touching 300 yards with a tailwind, the best chipping I've ever done - lots round the green that ended within 6 or 8 feet and a couple nearly going in, a few decent hybrid and 3W shots off the deck, which is rare, and a quite acceptable final score of 88 nett 72 (3 over), which I'm very pleased with considering how long it's been since I played and the fact I was on a strange course. (So strange in fact that on the short par 3 12th I aimed at the 2nd hole by mistake. I thought I'd only just missed the green, until I saw Midnight and Neil tee off towards a completely different one!! The bu99ers thought it was quite funny!!)

So, I like golf again. :D

A couple of years ago playing a course for the first time a mate was in the trees and rather than playing a chip back onto the fairway was lining between the trees.

I questioned if he had a line to the green to which he said yes.

My view was obscured by the trees and the ball strike sounded clean. He came out looking very please with himself.

I struck my shot an was just left - my mate looked very white.

The green he could see through the trees was for a later hole.

Funnies thing I have seen on a course so far!

Had a great day mate and I am glad that you enjoyed it and that your back to playing again.
We will arrange another game soon mate, near you so you can laugh at me hitting the wrong green.
Well played and at least you have proved to yourself that you are hitting the ball great and that you can do it.

See you soon

Guy...

... especially for chipping so well.

Despite the straight and big drives, my chipping, which has NEVER been any good, was going really well and was probably the most pleasing part of my round actually.

I look forward to the next match Guy. East Horton?
