Having won my first comp, had a few 2's over the weeks and been given a gift voucher, I have got approximately £200 to spend in my club shop but dont know what to get!

I am off 16 and my game can be incredibly erratic, two weeks ago I hit 85 and won and yesterday I hit 102 with a couple of 8's on the card. As it stands with a baby on the way I dont think that I have the time to invest in lessons so I would prefer to get some gear.

In the bag I have:-

Bayhill BH3 Driver
Mizuno Blue Rage 5 wood
Macgregor Mactec M685 irons (4-PW)
Hotblade 56 degree wedge
Odyssey Rossie 2 Putter

I am happy with all my clubs but my driver was only £14 off ebay and although it has served me well over the last few years it has developed a "rattle". It still hits fine but I wonder if it is time to step it up and look to invest in something new. I have no 3 iron as it was wrapped around a tree from a difficult lie and needless to say is now in 2 pieces. Maybe a rescue club is worth a shout but I am pretty happy with my 5 wood at the moment.

I am also debating whether to get a GPS watch unit such as the garmin s1.

What do people think?

Get a new boom stick.

Without wanting to be disrespectful to the Bayhill BH3, £200 quid will get you a weapon and a half (comparatively speaking:thup:)

Id say if the driver is doing its job (hitting 25-35% of the fairways which is decent stats for your handicap), get the rattle seen to, might just be a bit of glue or soil.
If the driver is ok, I would invest in a decent 3w or possibly a new driver and quality second hand 3w. if you learn to hit irons and woods well, there is no need for hybrids.

There are some great deals on last years drivers and woods. I would have a look at the drivers and 3 woods you could well get a deal on a pair that suits you for £200.

If you are happy with the contents of your bag I would definitely recommend the GPS watch or another accessory.
They are expensive so it is much better that you take this opportunity to invest in one now as you are unlikely to do so once your little one comes along.

Many thanks for all the replies.

I may keep saving for a bit longer and see how my game is but I cant stop thinking of getting a new driver!

It may be a case of waiting for the end of season sales to see what I can get for my money......

Sounds reasonable - but wait for the 'mid-season' Sale!

What's different about your game when you shoot 105 compared to 85?

If it's an area where investment in some new gear might help that's where I'd be looking.

Otherwise I'd be thinking of a new driver. You can get a model that is 1 or 2 years old for well within your budget and might even have something left over for a hybrid or maybe a gap wedge.

But try before you buy!

If I was set on buying something I would go for a Driver. Technology in drivers has advanced much more significantly than in irons and you'll get loads more forgiveness and some more yards.

Having said that, I think the best money you could spend would be on lessons. Even if you won't have the time to practice, just basic setup issues can be addressed and will really help

I have personally just bought a new driver, new 3 wood and a GPS watch.
Old driver - a Callaway X something (bought it off the shelf years ago)
Old fairway wood - was using my father in laws Nike SQ (I think).

Replaced with Rocketballz Stage 2 (both driver and 3-wood)
GPS watch is the Garmin s2

Got two rounds of golf this weekend - will find out how good my invest was soon!
