Mobile Phone

From a rules perspective a mobile phone is considered a 'multi function device'.

When it is being used as a DMD, and when permitted by LR, the specific rules applicable to DMDs apply; when they aren't the rules applicable to multifunction devices apply.

So first consider this, then consider any specific use as Rulefan has posted.

In addition there may be some (misguided) "rules" in put in place by the local club to consider but they are not part of the rules of golf.

On a practical stance, my concern about using a mobile phone is if it rains and your phone could be ruined.
If you're looking to use it as a DMD, I would say splash out for a proper DMD that can stand up to the elements.

Yes but the problem is that if an opponent is using it you're never sure what they are using it for and it seems rude to ask.....they might be getting texts on the course conditions or something....how far a hole thats into the wind is playing or something like that. I was sure that things like that didnt happen but an acquaintance told me a mate texted him with that very information in a comp which led him to use and extra club. Knocked it in for a birdie....:mmm:
