An easy way to downscale the photos is to send them to someone on WhatsApp and get them to send them back to you.
WhatsApp downscales them to send and they then work on this site.

Just a quick add to this tip.. you can actually message yourself on WhatsApp which solves the need to get them sent back

Also useful to make notes for yourself!
