Mizuno's new golf ball

Stumbled across this today-

http://golf.mizunoeurope.com/blog/three-new-balls-announced-for-march-2015/

Mizuno are releasing the JPX ball with 'microdimples' to reduce descent and keep the ball in the air longer and therefore get better distances.

Is this a step forward in development or a marketing technique? Any thoughts?

as all the Ball and club manufacturers build to the exact same tolerances it's just marketing.

Drivers arent longer, balls dont fly further but they can stay whiter longer and cut free longer.

I quite liked the MP version last season, only lasted 4 holes with it though! I really can't see this one taking them forward in the market.

To me it is all down to price. If a new ball or a ball from a different manufacturer is significantly cheaper than my preferred one then I will give it a go. If it is the same price or more expensive then I am probably going to stick with what I know. If these come in at a similar price to what I currently use then I will certainly give them a go but I am not at a level that I think that one brand or another of a similar type of ball is going to make any difference to my game (Hence the Dunlop NZ9 V3s in my bag)

It's just a shame that the MP balls will come out at £40 a box - surely if they had them at around the £30 mark they would be cheaper than their competitors and would pick up a larger share of the market. Might not make as big a profit on each box, but they would be selling a lot more

Problem is getting them in pro shops as well. Most have long standing deals with Titleist and Srixon and it is rare round my way to see anything different (hence I buy online)

The only dimple design I've seen actually make a difference has been the Hex design by Callaway. Those definitely travel proportionally further.

That said I'm fickle with balls. My favourite is the Pro V1x but will buy bridgestones/callaway when they are on offer.

Does anyone else maintain a ball preference (I always play well with x ball) by deliberately not using it if they think their going to have a bad round!!!)

Nice packaging - so they get my vote.

Now here's an idea that should work. Make the dimples the size of a pinhead, then get as many angels as you can to stand in them. Make them all flap their wings at the same time. The ball should go miles. And if only half of them flap, all on one side, then you can cure a hook or a slice.
