Mizuno taking on Taylormade at their own game

More intesting to see KJ Choi go into a retail store and walk out with a set of Mizuno irons, that he is gonna play this week at the Memorial !

Very strange thing to do for someone that has access to all those tour trucks.

Will be more interesting to then see how he performs?

I don't think that they're following TM's marketing style. They're just exposing TM's claims and comparing like for like.. Quite clever.

personally I don't see taking a club head, adjusting it to a setting you select, adding grips and shafts that you select is comparing like for like at all.

it gets worse, as there is no claim that they have standardised the lie angles to their selected shaft length which provides scope for unreasonable variation, esp in off centre strikes (which they then compare!) and, finally, they then not only remove the upper trajectory data but "The trajectory data is normalized to avoid environmental inconsistencies"!

I also think you will find that Callaway was the latest manufacturer making distance claims, not TM - why not focus on them?

This is not a good direction for such comparisons to go, they shouldn't focus on length anyway but adjusting other manufacturer's product specifications is ridiculous.

Was just about to post a thread on that having seen it just pop up on facebook http://www.golfwrx.com/100880/choi-buys-new-irons-at-golf-galaxy-for-the-memorial/

Unusual for a tour pro to do, but will be watching his play with interest this week.

He's a player that is unlikely to have the same clubs/shafts in the bag from 1 day to the next!

Actually played with one of his cast-offs a long time ago - my first use of a Matrix shaft!

Maybe he's been through all the Tour Van's stock! :D

I think TM is more commonly associated with distance claims and I would guess that Mizuno are more interested in TM's market share than Callaway's.

It's all marketing anyway. I chuckle when a marketing department takes a word like HIT and turns it into an acronym. Case in point is Mizuno's Harmonic Impact Technology (H.I.T) project. Just as well they didn't call it their Super Harmonic Impact Technology project :)

The whole thing looks a load of made up cobblers. Sad to see mizuno go in this direction, this is more a TM marketing strategy !

good job it wasn't an A.G store he visited or he would have come out with clubs that he couldn't hit but were on the target for the shop to sell, plus a dozen balls and a bag of tee pegs to sweeten the deal!!!!!!! yes speaking from past experiences.

Ooh - now that would make a good article
Send Eddie Pepperel, who just qualified for the US open and did very well at Wentworth, into an AG store and say , I play a bit of golf but need some new clubs, and see what they send him it with ...
