As per title I was wondering what experiences people have of this process. How in depth is it? Do they let you try what you want or just what they say is best? Can you take your current clubs along for comparison? Has it been of any benefit? Would I be better at a well respected local pro who has more choice than just the Mizuno range?
A lot of questions I know but I happen to be in the vicinity of the Welsh fitting centre next weekend and have been fancying a change.

I currently use ping i10s, cobra s9-1(f) 3 wood and a cobra zl driver all with reg shafts.
A slot at an appropriate time is still available! To this end i am looking for experiences and plus and minus points.
Thanks in advance.

I had my Mizunos fitted at Garforth Driving Range in Leeds and it was brilliant. They attach a little gizmo to the shaft of an iron and you take a few swings with it and it measures certain aspects of your swing like speed, tempo and some other things that I can't remember.

Then they put all these details into the PC and it tells you which shaft is ideal for your irons. It doesn't tell you which iron you should be using though. A disscusion with the pro will bring that out. I went for the more forgiving MP-53's because I travel with work a lot and sometimes go months without a game so I needed something that I can just pick up and hit again.

Once they've decided on shaft stiffness and so on you can then try all the different clubs with different brands of shafts to see which one you like better and the also have all the clubheads in different lies so you can find which one is best for you.

It all takes about half an hour so it's worth booking in advance. But it's definately worth it.

Which irons do you fancy?

Well you'd better make your mind up quickly as it looks like Mizuno are closing some of their NFCs and depending on Local Fitting Centres instead

d2cko - ah a fellow god's own county bloke! Was actually looking toward a combo type set of 63's and 69's although after seeing what you use I probably could do with keeping my options open!
DCB - hopefully not by next weekend!!

Excellent depth

Do they let you try what you want or just what they say is best?
both

Can you take your current clubs along for comparison?

Yes

Has it been of any benefit?

Yes, no doubt. Right shaft, size, ball spin, etc.

Would I be better at a well respected local pro who has more choice than just the Mizuno range?

Yes and no. You have fitting data to take away and use to get whatever clubs you want.

Nothing to lose by doing it. And still free I assume... :D

Splash, I can't speak highlt enough of Clays Mizuno fitting centre and the pro(can't remember his name)

I was fit two years ago for my MP52's. It was very in depth, I waas in control of the fit, I said what I wanted and what I wanted to do. The pro was very understanding, not pushy but would make suggestions based on his knowledge and the stats. It went a little like this.

Arrive, meet pro, explain process and use own club to warm up (6 iron)

Then use own 6 iron to hit 10 shots on launch monitor (outside on range, not in net) COllate figures and store them

He selected clubs based on what I needed improvment on (hit ball higher) and a shaft that would help. Eliminate any i didn't like the look of and start testing.

Once I had decided what i didn't like, it was down to two clubs and one shaft. Kept hitting balls untill I had the stats in the right place. Smash factor, launch angle, spin rate etc. Once I was happy I tested wedges to match.

Once I had decided on clubs I tried different sized grips/tape layers and picked out what I wanted.

Took the pro's phone number and told him I wanted time to decide. 1 week later I put my order in. Never looked back.

about 2 hours I was there and couyld have had longer if I wanted, but didn't need it.

Highly recommend it. They have since introduced swing DNA for club shafts. Might book in for that next year!
