Hi all,

I was perusing second hand section of the local golf shop last night and, as was inevitably going to happen, I found a set of irons I loved at first sight. The MP-53s look and feel so sleek, with that thin topline and super light feel which. I was sorely tempted to buy there and then, but I phoned up later on and asked to have them put aside for a knock tonight with a view to buying.

The only concern is that these clubs are made for the better player, a category in which I certainly don't fit yet. I want to know, firstly what everyone thinks of the clubs and secondly whether a high handicapper such as myself would enjoy using them, given that I'm new to the game, but playing twice a week and improving quickly.

The set in question is super cheap because the 4 iron is from a different set (mx-25 maybe), but i think the 4i is the least used of the clubs in my bag so delighted to make the saving!

Been playing MP53 for a long time but have just ordered Callaway XR Pro. The mizunos are fantastic clubs but the off centre strikes do fall woefully short of target.

You'll never know unless you try them, not much beats the feel of a well struck mizzy :)
Much of the game is between the ears, if your clubs give you a warm fuzzy feeling each time you hold & hit one you are more than halfway to cracking this frustrating game.

As for better players clubs i'd say no, improver yes ,and that what most of us are as hobbyists.

A few months ago i had a rush of blood and bought a set of blades, playing off 18 why on gods earth would i want to make the game any harder, i've been cut three shots of late so something must be working , so i could argue these are improver irons :D
Good luck.

I used to have these, took me from a 17 hcap to 11, could have kept them but got a deal on some mp64s which I had coveted since they came out.
They are wonderful clubs.

The 53s then the 64s would probably be considered to be too much club for me when I got them, but I really don't feel like they held me back. It's not the clubs stopping me from getting lower!

Handicap is irrelevant when buying irons. It all depends on how you like them. I know high handicappers with blades and low handicappers with improvement irons. Whatever feels best and gives you results is what you should buy.

I have MP53s (5-PW) and they are indeed lovely to look at and feel great when middled. The heads are a good size (not too small) and they are reasonably forgiving. Despite the cavity the 5 iron still looks quite bladey at address and doesn't have much off set which, to my eye, can make it look hard to hit, especially off a tight lie. It's lovely club when flushed though and I love using it off a good lie or off a tee on a par 3.

Of course the only way to find out if they might work for you is to hit them. If you do I'd be interested to see what you think.

Now the proud owner of a set of mp 53 irons (inc an mx 25 4i). Hit them at the range last night and love then even though I wasn't having a good ball striking day. Can't help but feel I've got a steal at £100 for the set!

why does anyone buy new shinies?

I honestly don't know. I've only been playing six years and have hardly changed my clubs. If I make a purchase it's been considered for a while, I've tried some options and had a conversation with my pro. Just seems crazy to me to buy a set of irons - keep them for a week - and then sell them

Wow. At that price you can't go wrong. BTW the MX 25 is also a great club. So easy to hit.

I play with MP-52's and love them, I have been tempted to try new irons but just as I do, I have a really good round.
