I am on a car forum as well as this one. A couple of days ago someone started a thread stating outrage at a leaflet that had come through their door. Guilford GC were offering 5 day membership at £740, or similar. The bloke was going nuts at how expensive golf was. There are very few golfers on there so I felt duty bound to reply and explain that was not bad for the area but golf is cheaper elsewhere in the country and is not the elitist sport it is made out to be. A few more people joined in having a pop, golfers are easy targets after all, but I left it alone.

Yesterday I had a look to see how the thread was progressing when it became apparent that the bloke thought the offer was literally for 5 days only. Yes, a literal 5 day membership. Someone had to explain the offer was for golf, Monday to Friday, 52 weeks of the year and so was a 260 day membership. Cue much embarrassment from him, humble pie being eaten and laughter from me .

Any other good misunderstanding stories out there?

Haha what a knob.

I had an apprentice who thought the "toolbox talk" we were waiting for onsite by the site manager was going to be him talking about tools

I gave an on-course lesson to someone who thought when the greenkeepers moved the flag on the green, they also moved the tee markers the same amount so the hole always played the same yardage.

I recall the story of the Richmond Park pro who was asked in his shop for some divots.

Two new golfers had been having indoor winter lessons and the teaching pro had told them that they should take a divot with every iron shot.

I went in to the pro shop today after my round to purchase a box of putts because I couldn't buy one out on the course.

There was a thread on the vx220 site a good few years ago, a bloke went to his pals in car, then walked into town, got smashed and got taxi home. Woke up in morning and his car was missing presumed stolen. Rang police to tell them of stolen car and rang insurance company.
later that afternoon his pal rings and asks when he is popping round to pick his car up.
